I don't know if it was pointed out on NBC, but the CBC broadcast pointed out that the Penguins didn't even look at the replay, and made the challenge immediately. That is a pretty good indicator that they were sure the call was going to be overturned. Why they thought that, I have no idea, but they were ultimately correct. - buffalofan19
The Penguins definitely looked at it. Sullivan said, during the game to McGuire, that the guy in the room looked at it, the guy upstairs looked at it and they all had a conversation and then decided to challenge it.

I haven't really looked at who will be available other than the Dallas keepers and probably MAF I don't think Pittsburgh has another goalie they can expose other than Murray do they? - Wetbandit1
Check out the post I did on goalies up on the previous page
As of right now, these are the goalies they'd likely be interested in
Vets:
Fleury- Pittsburgh
Howard- Detroit
Reimer- Florida
Youngsters:
Grubauer- Washington
Subban- Boston
Korpisalo- Columbus
Gudlevskis- Tampa
Ullmark- Buffalo
Campbell- LA
*Hellebuyck- Winnipeg (if the Jets trade for a goalie)
As of now, Pitt only has Fleury & Murray...
so if they were to trade Fleury, they would need to get a signed goalie they can expose in return or trade for someone asap
To go a little deeper into the Vegas goalie situation...
Fleury is likely traded by Pitt, taking him out of the equation
That leaves Howard & Reimer as possible Vetern starters,
and Grubauer as a young goalie they could see as their starter
If they pass on Howard, they'd be looking at a young forward from the Wings. Someone like Sheahan would likely be available, and I'm guessing they'll expose Abdelkader so they can protect a young guy like Fryk
If they don't take Grubauer, they will be able to take a good young defenseman from the Caps- either Orlov or Schmidt will be left unprotected
In Florida, Reimer seems like he would be a perfect backup if they wanna go with Grubauer as the starter. Or he could split time with Howard if they wanna go with 2 Vets. Or could even be the starter if they take a defenseman from Wash, pass on Howard, & snag Korpisalo from Cbus.
They could also pass on Reimer & choose Pysyk
It's possible Florida exposes Luongo, but he's 38 so I wouldn't see Vegas having any interest in taking him & his contract that goes till '22
Now for the young guys:
Subban is almost a sure thing to be their choice from Boston.
They could choose a vet defenseman like McQuaid or K.Miller, but they'll have better choices of defensemen from other teams... and the only other young goalie they could select who's on the same level as Subban is Korpisalo.
Speaking of Korpisalo, he's pretty highly regarded...
but the Jackets have Seth Jones & Ryan Murray who they are protecting, and probably Savard- leaving Jack Johnson available for the taking.
So do they think Korpisalo could be their franchise goalie at some point?
Or do they take JJ & potentially trade him for a decent return?
(PS. I hope they take JJ & send him to the Leafs. He's overrated imo)
Tampa has to get Callahan to waive his NMC, if not... Vegas takes whatever forward they leave unprotected, possibly Palat, or maybe Namestnekov or Tyler Johnson...
but my guess is that Cally makes it easy & Vegas has to choose from Gudlevskis in goal, or the slowly developing defenseman Koekkoek, who was chosen #10 overall in 2012
I don't really think they'll consider Jack Campbell from LA...
he finally had a decent year in the AHL last year, but he's 25 & I think Vegas would rather take a depth defenseman like McNabb or I think it's possible LA goes 4-4-1 and exposes Gaborik for Vegas to take a shot on
This brings us to Buffalo & Ullmark
Will we get them to take a bad contract?
Do they already have goalies chosen they like better than Ullmark?
It's not like he's got much trade value, so I can't see them choosing him unless they feel he'll be part of their future.
Grubauer, Korpisalo & Subban are all young & clearly ahead of him imo
So unless they pass on BOTH Grubauer & Korpisalo (which I doubt)...
then I don't think they take Ullmark
They'll either go with Carrier...
or take a bad contract from us if we are willing to give up enough picks to make it worth it for them
Might take a 2nd and a 3rd
Tough to say

Word on the street is that Shanahan called the Penguins after the goal and confirmed it would be overturned, followed by some figurative winking and nodding

I am taking Fleury, Subban and Grubauer before I am selecting Ullmark. I really feel they will take a flyer on Ennis, hoping he can rebound, not many forwards will be available that have put up Ennis' numbers.

They get to take 30 players,
so they can certainly afford to take chances...
and if some of their choices don't work out, no biggie
I think they might find draft picks more valuable than anyone we will leave exposed though
We are one of only a few teams that won't have much to offer them
I could see them taking a bad contract from us
Hopefully Moulson, but that's probably wishful thinking

ennis, ullmark, carrier
right now I think those are the 3 they will be considering
They played it at Summer Sanitarium in Toronto during the summer of SARS. It was (frank)ing awesome. sigh. You will never hear me say "(frank)ing awesome" and "Limp Bizkit" in the same breath again except for that concert. Metallica sucked at that concert. 1) Limp Bizkit, 2) Linkin Park, 3) Metallica. Seriously.

Wow...
I'm not surprised Limp Bizkit put on a good show
I saw them with Eminem, Papa Roach & Exibit as openers
They were good, but few of their songs have stood the test of time
Papa Roach was actually amazing at that show
I'm pretty surprised about Metallica though
That had to be disappointing

I was at that show, too and you are correct imo. I didn't even like any of the groups but a friend had free box seats. Bizkit had a guy with a chicken bucket on his head playing guitar. Not sure if the bucket made him a better player.

I saw them years ago. Metallica, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. The year Linkin Park filmed the Live in Texas video. So quite a while ago. Linkin Park was the best that day. Followed by Limp Bizkit which surprised me. I really enjoyed their show. Metallica was meh... Not as great as I had hyped them up in my head.

I didn't realize Subban would have to clear waivers next season
That changes things
They probably still choose him, but he'll have to be on their NHL roster
And that probably means they carry 3 goalies
That greatly increases the likelihood they choose Ullmark to start in the AHL
But that's only if they take defense from Columbus
NHL: Grubauer, Subban, and maybe Luongo if Florida will add picks
AHL: Korpisalo OR Ullmark, in that order... maybe both? - jdfitz77
I get that Subban was more highly touted in general when he was drafted, but Ullmark has more NHL experience and in his time in the NHL has looked very much the part. Subban only has 2 games under his belt and has a 5.81 GAA in each of them.
This whole expansion thing can be so fun (for Sabres for sure, since we have an easy time choosing who to protect).
7F / 3D / 1G
Forwards:
O'Reilly
Okposo
Kane
Carrier
Folingo
Larsson
Girgensons
Defensemen:
Ristolainen
McCabe
(newly traded for player?)
Goalie:
Ullmark
(trade Lehner to Flames or Avalanche)
Trying to be realistic, I would think this would be a favorable outcome from Expansion Draft. Still want to see a few more trades including Foligno and Girgensons to be moved and signing Darren Raddysh (as we are rumored to be interested in Spitfires (edit: Erie Otters actually) coach as well, maybe to lure this guy in?). Of course I want an overhaul, trading Moulson, Ennis, Bogo, Gorges, but I doubt that could happen.
If we can sign Raddysh, I am close to saying take a forward at 8th or trade the pick. (D usual take too long to develop and getting Antipin, Raddysh, and trading for another D along with Guhle, Risto and McCabe should fill those needs for a while)
Edit: Raddysh plays for Erie Otters (did) and we were looking at their coach for our head coach.

We took Risto at 8 and his development time was pretty quick. So it's possible to have that happen as well. But overall, you're right. Defense typically takes longer to develop.
