One thing for consideration...for all the justified hullabaloo about how the Preds shut down the Pens attack, something occurred last night that I think is important to note:
The Preds themselves only generated 26 shots. Its not like they were hemming the Pens in and peppering the net with chances on a constant basis. It was a very low event game, and frankly pretty choppy and uneven. If the Pens can continue to hold the Preds under 30 shots, and figure out how to spend more time in the Preds end, I like their chances. - Emperor Filonius
A huge chunk of the game was played in the neutral zone. I never felt like the Predators were dictating play, and it felt like the Penguins got really conservative in the 2nd, where they were hemming the Predators in during the latter half of the 1st period by activating their defensemen.
It was a lot more like a team getting up early, going prevent and giving up a bunch of yards than it was a fluky kind of game where one team dominated but couldn't score. |

The average HOUSEHOLD income in Pennsylvania is $55k per year.
So no, that's not average at all. - BINGO!
So $13.22 assuming a dual income household. Round up and it's $25 |

Going 37 mins without a shot on goal is domination not score effects. |

Naa they just need to remember they are dealing with a snowflake hockey organization (PENS) who wants to run to mommie (police) every time someone throws a dead fish on the ice.... its a fish, its a tradition...... good grief you bunch of pussies, hockey players and fans are supposed to be tough.... except for the pens, i guess they get a pass on that too. - pred_26

That and ridiculously timely scoring. Whenever they have needed a big goal, someone has delivered. The combination of these two cures a lot of warts. - Emperor Filonius
probably unsustainable for the long run. Good thing (for pens fans) is that the playoffs are not the long run. in the post season, a win is a win no matter how you get it. in an 82 game regular season, wins are important, but underlying factors such as corsi and fancy stats are more important because it can tell the true ability of a team. when you only need to win 16 games and at most play 28, all that goes out the window |

Amd I would bench Hainsey for Streit to be clear. But I think the problems last night came from the other pairs, especially the Daley Maatta pair, making poor choices, yet Hainsey is always the problem. - Tojo.
I'd use Ruhwedel because of his skating and he's right handed. That being said, I'm convinced Sully will ride Hainsey to the finish.
I bet Hags gets a jersey next game however. He started resembling the player from last year in the Ottawa series and I think we can use all the speed we can get.

what does this even mean? is this aussie's alt account
- pensfan024
Potential Meanings:
--pred_26 IS Bob (Bob was a crazy guy that phoned into the 'Talking Dead' in 2013)
--The Preds know that they are in trouble after knowing the Pens played badly, but still beat them.
--pred_26 has been or will be banned (number of days to be determined)
--The NHL needs to change - OR it will become less popular and die, the end of the NHL may be near unless it protects ALL of its players including stars & calls ALL penalties!
--I'm just Crazy, like Bob & pred_26
--We should just stop posting if all this time is wasted on a debate about the stupid catfish
--The end of the series is close, but if the Pens don't win game 2 and Rinne has a great game, the Preds could come back from this krisis
--The Pens will win the series 4-0
--I'm hoping this board gets back to talking about hockey, cus this is why I'm here & I enjoy hearing opinions and other ideas about the Pens as they journey on attempting another SCF win! |

I'm sure Hags is injured. He hasn't had the speed that he had before.
Who would sit, Rowney?
If Hags is 85% or 90%, I would make that switch!

I was surprised too. I thought Sully would recalibrate for the opponent. Rowney was effective against Ottawa, but he shouldn't be playing over Hags against Nashville. |

Long term shows the Pens have guys that out-perform their corsi as well though.
NAME CF% RANK. PT/60. RANK
Crosby. 53.8. 51. 2.68. 5
Sheary. 52.7. 84. 3.01. 1
Malkin. 52.4. 92. 2.82. 4
Guentzel 50.9. 145. 2.88. 3
Schultz. 51.2. 60. 1.06 19 ( Schultz among defensemen)
It's mostly the same guys who scored significantly above their corsi that are doing so in the playoffs for the Pens with Kessel replacing Sheary.4 goals on 11 shots is of course ridiculous, but these guys have proven all year, and in Crosby and Malkin's case all career, that they just don't need as many chances. Not sure to what %, but that should factor in somewhere yet doesn't in most analytical models. If possession breaks close to even though, bet in the Pens finishing more. |

Ruhwedel has too much gamble in his game for my liking both in forcing passes and roaming for hits. Like the raw tools and know I'm in the minority, but he worries me far more than Hainsey. He's the type of guy who will have a nice corsi but a minus 2 because of careless mistakes. I trust Streit's decision making more. I agree though I expect to see Hainsey stay mostly because the PK was so bad I don't see them weakening it.
Hags surprised me as well. Rowney or maybe Wilson could sit for him. Time to get back to the speed game. |
