No quack. You can't have it both ways. Here is Simon Despres's RotoWorld page http://www.rotoworld.com/...nt/nhl/2990/simon-despres. As of May 10th he is back on skates. Therefore, you made a fake claim in pursuit of one of your "basking for glory" posts. You make it seem like all these dominoes are going to fall down just so Bieksa can get a 1M dollar contract in 2018-2019. Your argument is contingent on Despres being done and 2 regulars being traded. Moreover, I think it is actually very insulting to re-sign a veteran guy as a #7 on the depth chart. Furthermore, you completely neglect his agent looking for a retirement contract. Although maybe that hypothetical isn't unorthodox enough for the likes of you.
GM Bob Murray has a job to do, and the 3rd protection spot for a defenseman has been at the top of his list for over a year now. Murray wouldn't let something this paramount fester over the course of an entire season. A plan of action was put in place last summer to prevent any lunacy speculation. I believe this was handled amicably last year. For whatever reason, you have trouble wrapping your head around that.
Lastly, injuries do happen, but that whole aspect of your argument is just a ploy to make you look right. Only after 2 guys are traded, Larsson is ahead of Bieksa on the depth chart and a starter sustains an injury will that scenario take place. Oh, and I forgot, Despres, who is back on skates is now apparently done too. I feel like I'm talking to the fourth grader who is only capable of raising his hand and asking, "What if?" question. If management has even been paying attention this entire situation was already handled, yet I'm the bad guy for having faith in the management here. Unbelievable. - IGotTheMemo
Nobody really knows whats going to happen with despres. Even bob said nothing about it when he was asked. As far as his recovery goes i don't think we will know till he actually plays in a real game. Also your forgetting that bieskas agent did this before when we traded for him. To get him to wave his no movement clause we had to renegotiate a contract extension.

If he's skating again it's probably a sign he's planning a comeback. quackup seems to have completely ruled out Despres, and that's an unrealistic conclusion to jump to given that he was skating with the team again throughout the latter part of the season. There has been ample recovery time, rightfully so, but moving forward he could be an option.
I haven't forgotten the trade and sign that happened nearly 2 years ago when the Anaheim Ducks traded a second rounder for Bieksa. When looking at that trade, I think it showed amicability between Vancouver, Anaheim, and Bieksa's agent. There was no renegotiation. It was a planned trade and sign.
I've said it before; I'll say it again now, and I'll repeat myself as many times as I have to until this godforsaken expansion draft is over and done with. Anaheim is going to go 7-3-1, and that third protection spot for defense is the equivalent of a top 4 defenseman for the next 10 years. The bottom line is there is no way that spot isn't being used on Vatanen or Manson. I believe this matter will be handled with cooperation, but no matter what Murray is going to get the job done. |

Please don't reference what I said. You're wrong. I never ruled him out completely. I said "highly doubtful" and I stand by that statement until BM states otherwise. Skating with the team (hell, I could do that) and being ready to skate COMPETITIVELY are two different things. Nothing else implied.
This all started with your following post:
"There isn't any word because there is nothing to be said. This was taken care of last summer internally. By that I mean, GM Bob Murray had a sit down with Mr. Bieksa. The secretary brought them both a coffee and they talked about the long term semantics of his NMC and the long term implications the expansion draft would have on the Ducks if he didn't waive his protection spot. Stop feeding a false narrative.
I don't know where you get this entitlement from, but I think just doing the right thing for the future of this franchise will be enough for Kevin. You know, the guy probably went under the knife last week and is confined to a bed and wheelchair. The Golden Knights and George McPhee are thinking about one thing, and one thing only: youth. To even suggest such heresy after this topic has already been beaten to death is folly."
I disagreed with the bold above. Nothing more. So don't get off kilter here. I absolutely believe Ducks are going 7/3/1 and Bieksa waives or is bought out. Period. |

And it continued with this post:
"Thanks for the rough draft. I'm guessing the entitlement stems from the pseudo belief that feelings have a monetary price tag. Maybe I'll dumb up my diction, as I do try to write for my target audience. I forgot that I was on the internet.
Wait, scratch that ... I just don't tolerate mediocrity. I have to share the internet with the likes of you, and that's a two way street. Thanks though for the barbiturates-inspired post."
I said you didn't have to be rude. And I went on that money and feelings are definately related. You don't think so. Fine.
And it spiraled downward after that. |

Six months ago, when there was no word on Simon Despres after he suffered a season ending concussion during game 1 of the 2016-2017 season against the Colorado Avalanche it was a "wait and see" situation. Once there was word that he was skating with the team that was a sign of progress. Earlier today you wrote, "Despres may very well never skate again." I corrected your mistake (one of many), and now I get home from my evening walk, pull up hockeybuzz.com, and have to read a sympathy piece! If you want to be coddled this isn't the place for that.

The basis of that sentence, "I don't know where you get this entitlement from, but I think just doing the right thing for the future of this franchise will be enough for Kevin," was under the presumption that Bieksa understood what was going on and was willing to go along with it for the greater good. He can either have > 99% chance of playing here next year and waive or opt to be bought out and still have to move. Arguably the only way he stays in Anaheim is by waiving. |

Since this is a blog about Ducks hockey, forgive me for assuming my statement implied actual game participation. Not practicing with the team. Man, get the chip off your shoulder. You want me to say you're right. Fine. You're right. I was wrong. He did skate again. Oops. Feel better. |

Since this is a blog about Ducks hockey, forgive me for assuming my statement did not imply practicing with the team, but actual game participation. That's not a mistake. Hopefully you can get rid of that chip on your shoulder. You must be a ton of fun at a party. NOT - quackup
Dang right I'm not fun. Have you been on the internet? Every webpage has people just like you, and people like me have had it. Time for me to go cook some rice, grate some cheese, slice an avocado and reign down the salt. I bet I'll feel like crap knowing I only spent $1.20 on dinner! |

You responded to a blog I actually changed. It was up for maybe 2 minutes while I edited it. Either it was a coincidence, or you're spending all your time in front of the computer waiting for a response to one of your blogs. I sure hope it was a coincidence, I really do. Otherwise, well, I just do.
My life is way more involved than having dialogue with others on the internet. I don't do social media, and really there's only 2 sites I involve myself with. Hockeybuzz and the Ducks website. That's it. I don't really know about the characteristics of other posters, nor do I really care. |

You act like there are all these fantastic places on the internet. This community is actually one of the least toxic ones out there. I don't know who you think you are to be prancing around on your high horse talking down to me, but I've been on the web for a very long time and if I frequent this website often then good for me. It's a hell of a lot better than most of the other crap on the internet.
If you're going to try to spin your botched up post to make me look like some sort of neckbeard then whatever. Part of me knows I'm feeding your ploys for attention when I reply, but putting people, like you, in their place over the internet is very entertaining for me. Moreover, writing persuasive arguments everyday is very important to me, and this is a perfect platform for that. |
