Tanner knows ALL!!!! If he says it and he finds research that he agrees with than nobody can contradict him!!!

He is the all knowing professor of Hockeybuzz

Oh yah....what college were u a professor at?

- rrentz

Whenever someone throws that crap out, I roll my eyes. I, too, have been a college prof once upon a time- and it isn't that much to brag about. Tanny clearly didn't make muster vis a vis tenure (let's be honest, he was probably a glorified TA) - so no more successful than my dip-a-toe into the world of teaching governmental structures.

The guy is a fun hockey blogger- consistently incorrect, but swings for the fences and makes wild claims... always good for debate.

Where he falls down is the speed in which he runs for the ad-hom with anyone who disagrees with him... not to mention the amount of other fallacies he brings out, consistently (strawmen have been a bit less lately, but his "appeal to authority" crap has been off the charts).

Where he totally falls apart is when he dips his toe into geopolitics and political ideology. It's like watching a freshman flail about throwing out terms he read in a book once by some guy he can't remember... but really made him FEEL it was correct. That's the problem with current day Leftism (no, not Liberalism) - they've become bigoted in the realm of ideas to the extreme, and assume that because some "smart folks" are on their side, there are none worth mentioning on "the OTHER (important word) side".

He'll get it, one of these days. For all his bluster, he isn't an idiot, just seemingly suffering from a massive ego... or just having a great time trolling.

I have never in my life met/discussed things w/ somebody like Tanner. I don't pretend to know everything, and can admit I'm biased and talk out of my arse from time to time, but the slop he slings as FACT is simply sad

What's worse is how he insults people on a daily basis, and the funny thing is the same people he insults are responsible for paying his bills

You do not know or seem to recognize the difference between an appeal to authority in the logical fallacy sense (for example "He must not be good enough to make team Canada because the team Canada GM would know if he was") and appealing to authoritative sources.

The way you phrase you're arguments against global warming just passes the burden of proof in the sense that "if you can't prove it to me now, yourself, then how do I know it's not a conspiracy?" which I guess is a plausible concern you could have, but the reason more sensible people consider that tactic disingenuous is that basically at some point you have to take things on faith. You can't ever even really know that you're not in the Matrix, afterall.

If I say "Global Warming is real, because 100% of credible scientists, universities and experts say so. " That is not the same thing as making an appeal to authority that is a logical fallacy.

I am not expected to be a climate scientist, and by your logic, anyone who sites a scientific study is appealing to authority.

Also, by the way, I don't really think my job was that impressive either, I am simply pointing out that I'm not some whacky crazy person, but a successful member of society who until going on the internet had never been called stupid before.

This is hilarious because lately, I have really been into studying the way that guys like you take condescending tones in order to make up for the way in which facts never seem to agree or get through to you.

The idea that a person like you, who thinks and writes the things you do, thinks that I am the one who is not informed is ironic, and sad.

Also, objectively ridiculous.

I honestly am at a loss to explain why all the sane, educated informed people are talked down to by people who are only good at being rude, condescending and avoiding facts.

Just for the record, I have been - and likely will be again - a college professor and it doesn't seem like you have graduated high school. OH, and I've also had a job that paid me to do research, something I am an expert at.

I don't want to brag, and I almost never mention my actual qualifications. I just want you to know that I'm on to you. I know how you've been brainwashed to think, and I know you despise new information, facts, and anyone who knows better than you.

I have been asked to lay off the politics, so I won't be responding to whatever garbage you post in response to this, but I just want to make it very clear how much you amuse me, and how, no matter how sarcastic or insulting you are, or how much you disparage me, or (ironically) think I'm the one who isn't informed, how I will be the one who continues to objectively and morally be in the right.

Just so we're clear and everything.

- james_tanner1

Have to hand it to you. Relentlessness is not a shortcoming of yours.

I am totally clear on this. Glad you're on to me. Because an angry blogger keeps me up at night. Especially one --- who says he never brags --- with an MA, talking science. That is funny.

Glad to know you're gonna be a professor again. And what disciplines in science will this Associate's Professor job entail?

Since those of us who can do it, choose to do it. Those who cannot do it, teach.

Intriguing you mention brainwashing. Because you, among others are the ones duped into a former VP's lie about a trace gas. Keep believing that. Because it is YOU who AMUSES me. You will see in less than three decades.

Another amusing point is how you double down on your assessment the Capitals are so great. Keep up that psychotic stance. It is beyond amusing. It is hilarious. RS means nothing compared to the PO. Deal with it.

And you have to study condescending language and tone? Good luck with that. Maybe you can get another degree. Perhaps you may remember not too long ago accusing me of not being patriotic because I don't want to pay taxes to a wasteful government. Study that.

Lastly, you are not objective. You are the one who disparages anyone who disagrees with your statement(s). So either your memory is poor or you are, simply put, a hypocrite.

And since you were told to drop the politics, I would like all of us to do that. So if you're game for that, stick to the hockey. That would be great. And if you choose to do so, perhaps some of the guys who chose to stay away or not click, like me, would engage you in hockey discussion.

Have a nice day.

I didn't read anything in his post arguing against global warming. This is the next level of your responses where you claim that the logical fallacies that you use aren't logical fallacies. It's a never ending circle of your responses that follow a repeatable pattern in thread after thread.

100% of scientists might say the Earth is Warming, but not 100% of saying its b/c of humans. Many credible scientists also believe that this is just another cycle that our planet is going through. Any scientist who says it all b/c of humans can't back up their results b/c by the time they do , the Earth has reverted in one way or another. i.e. global cooling and global warming

The I-am-smarter-than-you ego was something I simply bypassed until this whole professor thing came out. Got me to thinking. As my wife and I send each kid out there, to college, and in search of the truth, could they run into a Tanner, or Tanner-like? Upon asking several colleagues with older kids to understand what they encountered, the resounding answer was, "you had better believe it". Frightening.

Go Trump!
- james_tanner1

Another reference to mock a Trump supporter!

Fact is that over 75% of the professors in this nation are Liberal. If that's where their political beliefs lie, than so be it, but they should NOT be preaching it to their students!!!!

I remember when I was a kid in elementary school, and Reagan was running against Carter. My teacher had Carter posters up. I went home to my parents and asked why the teacher didn't have posters of both candidates. My dad went up to the school and discussed it w/ the teacher. Instead of just putting up another poster w/ Reagan on it, she decided it was better to take down the Carter poster.

My point is that most (not all) professors only talk about one side of the coin, and REFUSE to give both sides of the issues. If they do, just like Tanner, they deamonize and belittle opposing views as dumb, uninformed, or racist.

Its a sad state of affairs, and the millennials are the product!

Over a couple months time, I tried to contact Ek and ask if the CoC changed regarding this. Crickets. Asked a mod specifically about this author. Would not answer me. I took it they condoned it, therefore I comment. I refuse to let someone so ill informed in the economies and sciences to sit in front of a computer and spew complete and utter BS. Add in asinine hockey talk like the RS is more telling than the PO and I see someone who has their own alt-universe.

Even worse now. Has gone down to grammar school. Had it out with our K-5 principal back in 2007. Care to guess the topic? Ended up being the least angry parent during my visit. Four mom's were in the school office. And they were pissed. Think it was the woman vs woman thing. These ladies IMO were the reason the school stopped showing this certain "truth". Sort of felt bad for the principal. She was a bit older but completely out of touch. And she drove a high end Range Rover. How ironic.

I am really wondering how much crap my kids are fed in college now.

Mark down this year: 2046

My guess based on extrapolation of solar data (sun spots, solar irradiation, etc), around 2046 we will have seen enough consecutive years of systemic global cooling, that we will think we are back in the 1970's, minus the bell bottoms.
