Changes on a day to day basis, it is determined by a combination of the position of the planet Saturn, if it's cloudy outside in Ames, Iowa and on the severity of Gary Bettman's hemorrhoids. Of course, these conditions are all meaningless on the third Tuesday of any month with an "o" in it's name, on those days, goaltender interference is determined to be anything that leads to the decapitation of the goaltender. All else is good to go.

Hockey is such a great sport. At times, it is so painful some of the rules. I'm also trying to figure out the offside call. At least, they got the wraparound goal right. I guess NBC was having a drinking game in the truck and couldn't catch it before the league.

If it is a squirt gun, yes

If it is a firearm, no

Is this about the first goal? I had a game of my own and missed the first two periods.

2. Neither team would have a use for Brayden schenn if he was available to them

Not sure I ever saw that happen. The arena (NHL) stopped play 1 minute after a "goal" happened, but without a stop in play or anything. Crazy.....
- steelydan

It's a change in the rules. The goal judges in Toronto look at each possible goal for this. And now they don't let them play on once they've made a decision. I've seen it happen one other time. It's a whole lot better than a team having to wait for the next stoppage.

I do wonder what would happen if a team hadn't used its challenge yet and then wanted to review offside. I hate that offside replay. Was it someone here who said, replay twice at regular speed and if you can't tell then it's call on the ice.

It's gotten to the point that offside is like arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

There had been no stoppage before the league stopped play, so even if they'd seen it, there wouldn't have been a chance to show it.

Yes, but during other games during the season , Enzo would mention that a goal was scored earlier he believed. Not a big deal, usually NBC does a better job discovering those errors

Wow, Charles Barkley really had nothing good to say about the NBA Playoffs and he wasn't shy about it either.

My favorite part was him saying he'd love to see JR eaten by an alligator. Only thing that would make that better would be for Milbury to be the alligator's dessert.

My favorite this year was the one that went across the outside of the top of the goal and the fans were all thinking it was in. Why did they never show the clear replay in the building. Really bad work by the In Game Experience crew.

Totally..

In fact, if you look at PPG over the past 3 seasons, Schenn's .67 ppg would trail only Johansen and Forsberg.

If you limit it to this year alone (.70) it would also trail Arvidsson. But yeah.. no need for a bonafide top 6 forward.

I can confidently state that not only could both teams use him, I'm fairly certain that Pittsburgh would have Schenn playing high minutes, and probably with Sidney Crosby.

The NHL is a high variance sport because luck plays such a large role. The NBA contains the least amount of luck of the four major sports, so the best teams are usually going to win. That's why there is less parity in the NBA (even if you properly changed the point system).
- PhillySportsGuy

You didn't really support your opinion with anything. What is your example of how much luck occurs in the NHL? Compared to the NBA?

Putting aside your "luck" commentary, I'd say hockey has the most parity due to it's salary cap. There is a trickle down effect from the cap, which affects performance and eventually drafting. But at the end of the day, I'd say the cap allows the NHL to showcase a product in which no team will be looked at as the GS Warriors (or Yankees).

IMO, the most important element to winning in each sport:
NFL - Coaching (close 2nd is Drafting)
MLB - Drafting
NHL - Drafting
NBA - Brokering a "Dream-Team"

Each of the leagues are set up the way they are by design. They didn't happen on accident. And the article talks about how different variables affect luck. Hockey is a sport that leans more towards luck than the other major sports due to those variables. It doesn't mean that good teams or players are lucky, it just says that pure skill won't get you (and/or your team) as far in a sweater compared to a jersey due to how the sports are played.

There's tons of difference. Luck is not nearly as much of a factor as many think it is in hockey. One thing stands out. The NBA is a 48 minute game. The top players on a team play how many of those minutes? 40+. In Hockey it's a 60 minute game and a top player might play what, 25 minutes?
