Each of the leagues are set up the way they are by design. They didn't happen on accident. And the article talks about how different variables affect luck. Hockey is a sport that leans more towards luck than the other major sports due to those variables. It doesn't mean that good teams or players are lucky, it just says that pure skill won't get you (and/or your team) as far in a sweater compared to a jersey due to how the sports are played.

But in the dumbed-down video they didn't attribute that to luck so much as talent usage and distribution.

It's a change in the rules. The goal judges in Toronto look at each possible goal for this. And now they don't let them play on once they've made a decision. I've seen it happen one other time. It's a whole lot better than a team having to wait for the next stoppage.

I do wonder what would happen if a team hadn't used its challenge yet and then wanted to review offside. I hate that offside replay. Was it someone here who said, replay twice at regular speed and if you can't tell then it's call on the ice.

It's gotten to the point that offside is like arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

I think what they did was say that the talent usage and distribution cause luck to become a bigger factor. That is what is being defined as "luck" Same way that sample size is taken into account. The definition is what gets debated more often than anything else I think. Same with "possession" and fancy stats.

Sounds like luck is being defined as outcome is more dependent on what your non-star players do.

No, non star players just play a bigger role in a hockey game.

Does a basketball deflect off of two peoples legs before going into the basket?

Does a puck circle around the goal posts before going in?

I wasn't particularly impressed with Martina McBride the other night either.

They both sounded sick almost.

Carrie Underwood or bust tbh
