was just looking. yuskevich, carkner.
who can forgte Cronin the barbarian.
brian benning was an interesting one. came here played very well after trade. never heard from again. Bill what happened with him? - rinaldo
IIRC
Benning got injured a couple of times after coming here and when he came back, he seemed to really shy away from contact. By the end of his tenure here, he was basically AMac minus the shot blocking ability.

I would only want them to trade for a dman if Manning was going back the other way.
Manning + 4th for TVR would be an upgrade for us, and he's a righty. It's not ideal to have only one RHD out of the top 7. The benefit for Chicago is that they get a pick for TVR instead of losing him to Vegas for nothing, and they get Manning for their AHL team. - Feanor

This may be a silly question, but will there be a roster freeze after the protection lists are announced? Las Vegas needs to construct a team, and if unprotected players start changing left and right, they'll have to start over from scratch. - jmatchett383

Yes, but the point remains that the only reason you could land a guy live TvR is because we have an open slot and other teams don't. So before you could flip him for a pick, you'd need to trade for him. - jmatchett383
Right but its a behind the scenes wink and a handshake. TVR never suits up for the Flyers, we just trade for him... lets just use what I was talking about before....
Trade 1: Flyers get TVR Chi gets 44th overall pick.
Flyers Protect TVR
Expansion Draft
Trade 2: Flyers get 26th Overall pick Chi get TVR. |

Jody Hull is the one that sticks out.
However, we did get Mark Howe instead of Marty and Derian Hatcher (debatable who was better). |

There is no way in hell a #5 defenseman is bringing back a first rounder. Maybe like we give them a 4th and they trade him back for a 3rd. I'd rather have a vet who can play (or be healthy scratched) than a 3rd. |

Because we don't necessarily want 2 1st year players, a 2nd year player, and a 3rd year playing being counted on to play 82 games next year. |

Whatever, the idea is to get picks or move up in the draft... Your focusing on the wrong details...
The right details are... if he is a 5th overall d-man, why do we want/need him. |

He would be a solid 3rd pairing RHD
AMac*
Gudas
TVR
Gives Myers time to play in the AHL for a year then we flip TVR whenever Philippe is ready. |

Why? - youarewrong
Because he's only signed for one year, he's better than Manning (and maybe AMac too), he's right handed, and he's signed for under $1M. So if we can use him instead of Manning as our 5/6/7, it makes us better for next season.
Basically, use a 4th to swap him for Manning, who he is better than. |

Or... we "rent" our protection slot for picks or moving up in draft... ie get picks instead of give them up...
And we either let our "ready" young players play or sign a 5th/6th guy... again without giving up assets. |

Compared to who we would get via UFA, he's got this going:
1. He's young but proven and would be an upgrade over Manning, on par with AMac.
2. He has one year left at 875K and then is an RFA
3. He's right -handed.
If we get a UFA, it will most likely be someone not as good as him, someone who wants more money, or someone who wants more term (or all 3). Getting him to replace Manning makes more sense than sticking with Manning or dipping into UFA. |

I'd rather have a young, cheap, controlled player playing 5/6/7 instead of a late 3rd /4throunder.
But sure, let's get rid of Gudas too so we can rent that slot and flip it for a 5th, right? So we can have 3 rookies plus Ghost, Provorov, and AMac next year. That's a good idea. |
