Trading for Schneider would be stupid unless they were just trying to unload the salary. There's really no value in having an elite goalie in the league. Sure, it's nice but you're really not getting that much more than you'd get from a solid goalie. There are only 31 jobs available and there are probably at least 45 goalies who are good enough to win a Stanley Cup for the right team.
No matter what the Flames give up, they're organization would be losing more value as a whole than they'd be gaining in the goaltending category. What happened when Quick went down this year, all of a sudden Budaj is a great goalie? What happens every time Lundqvist goes down, all of a sudden his backup is the next best thing. What happened when Price went down, hey look, now Condon is great. Keeping the puck out of your net is far more on the entire team than it's ever been before.
The Flames shore up their defensive game and they can win with pretty much any of the goalies that are available right now. They should set the maximum they'll give up as next year's 3rd. - Hunkulese
This is hilarious. How soon you forget what an elite goalie did for Jerome Iginla and a bunch of plumbers for a solid 5 or 6 years, and how average goaltending in front of one of the best Defences in the league is holding you gays back. |

Your right, we'll aim the bar high and hope for average.
No one said Budaj was great or Condon for that matter. They filled a role. Hell we even debated keeping Johnson and dumping Elliott when he went on his little run. Elite, excellent even good goaltending allows your team to take chances, and can make up for defensive miscues. You saw it in the teams body language against the Ducks when Elliott gave up those softies. You are right, its a team game and yes its more important than ever but to say there's no value in an elite goaltender is shortsighted. |

Why do you think that tho? Instincts are fine but he has NEVER produced anything more than pedestrian numbers at any level...this feels like an awful lot of hope on your part, simply because he is Flames prospect. The hype your spewing about this guy doesnt exist anywhere else. - Larsson_fan
I think it's because scouts had used him as a comparable
I haven't researched the comparable points and leagues they played in prior to being drafted, but I think it's how the scouts see him play
When you watch him, he's a fast, smooth skater with slick hands and good IQ
he may never make it to the NHL, who knows, but the comparisons are made because of the style and skills he does have

Depends on your definition of pedestrian. For a 16 year old Dman to see regular SHL time is almost unheard of; let alone to actually produce 6 points in 32 games. 5 points in 18 games is also nothing to scoff at (Karlsson's best was 10 in 45). |

Yeah cause Karlsson was putting up mad numbers in Sweden
Kylington is nowhere near as good as EK but your argument is still $hit!!! |

Should've stopped before that example. Montreal fell out of contention and missed the playoffs when Price went down.
What you are saying is true to a point. But I think the extra ~2mill we would spend on Schneider over a goalie like Mason or Elliott would be worth it. Especially if we decide to go with a more inexperienced blueline next year.
Is it worth having the most expensive goaltender in the league? Probably not. But the 6 million that Schneider is making is actually pretty reasonable/in line with what most teams that made the final 4 in the last few years have been paying.

If you count 7 games of minimal minutes in what was a far lesser league at the time and producing nothing to be comparable, then... yes? |

Can you prove he got minimal minutes?
Hah I'm more just pounding it through that he's a lot more Sbisa than Karlsson. |

I mean, his lack of production would then be EVEN more sad if he was getting more than minor minutes so I was just trying to do him a courtesy |

I forgot about Karlsson's earth shattering 10 points he had in 45 games playing in Sweden the year he was drafted.
Like Karlsson, Kylington has spent his whole career playing against men. He isn't going to have huge inflated point totals on his stat line.
When he came over here to play they would've flat out told Kylington that if he wants to play in the NHL he will have to learn how to play defense first hockey. The leash was/is pretty short on the kid. He has the ability to fly out there, but he knows that's not what is going to get him on the team.
Is he going to be Erik Karlsson? Doubtful. Could he turn into a similar player? You never know, the potential is there.
P.S
For christ sake, the original comment was basically saying that with our luck if we trade Kylington he would turn into the next Karlsson. It was never intended to be a (frank)ing scouting report of the guy, it was you donkey's that took it literally. |

So flames players/prospects are off limits but Thai ladyboys are fine with you ....
I'm sure you could go back and read similar praise for many oilers players before they played a single game ...it's what fan bases do |

Who knows, maybe it was our special HJ's that got the janitor to where he is today
Every teams base does that. You know how many times I had to listen to how (frank)ing great Ales "Casper" Hemsky was? Or what about Robbie (frank)in Schremp?

Actually I remember seeing several Oilers fans come over here (I believe you were even one of them) and say they thought we grabbed the best player in the draft.
Most of us were content with whoever was going to fall to us, they were all good players with roughly the same ceiling. I was never a drais hater, I even thought that us grabbing Wolf was a sign that we were going to draft him (and I would've been happy if we did). - Saskabush
Nope. Only Reveen had a Bennett boner. He was proven wrong, beyong a shadow of a doubt.
You guys did well though....thank God Buffalo's GM was (frank)ing retarded. |
