I (frank)ing hated Burke before he came to Calgary. The last few years I've largely learned to tune him out or take what he's saying with a grain of salt.

He just renewed that hatred for him, hopefully this pissed the ownership group off enough to tell him to GTFO (doubtful). I'd be more than comfortable giving BT full control, we'd probably make a lot less dumb moves.

Calgary Next estimate of $1.8 Billion while Edmonton built their arena for $600 million ? I love the Stamps but it's not worth it to throw in a new football stadium..The Flames need to work with similar numbers that Edmonton built theirs for.

Calgary Next estimate of $1.8 Billion while Edmonton built their arena for $600 million ? I love the Stamps but it's not worth it to throw in a new football stadium..The Flames need to work with similar numbers that Edmonton built theirs for.

As a tax payer, i'm okay with being on the hook for some of the cost of something like LA built. I think the City needs to take the lead on this and work backwards from a dollar amount similar to what other cities spent. IMO, Calgary Next is a non starter as they tried to slip in a bunch of other stuff for way too much money.

Calgary next was never a real thing, it was a smoke and mirrors announcement by the Flames to put public pressure on the city.

The goal has been is still is building the new arena on the stampede grounds. The Stampede community is not a favour of that as it would annex more grounds from them, dont want to sell it.

There is an architecture firm in the city who has been working on the victoria park arena for a while now. They are still playing politics bw the Flames, City and Stampede grounds....ultimately in the end, it will go where its suppose to go.

Burke is a further moron bc they city is already planning on having to build a new venue anyways wit the 2026 bid, they have Proposals out for a variety of venues to see the viability of it all.

they will spend more if they get the winter games 2026. The C-Train will have to go straight to the airport (finally since the non compete clause with the cab companies that was signed ends in 2025)

They will spend a billion just on another transit line, never mind the arena
