"I am of the opinion that you keep a talented powerforward like Kane unless he's unwilling to sign a reasonable extension in the $6M/2-3 yr. range."--
I don't think it would be reasonable for Kane/or anyone like him to sign a 2-3 year contract at this point in his career. He's going to be a UFA, in the prime of his career, putting up very impressive numbers. A 2-3 year deal is simply not in the cards at all. His agent would have to be out of his mind to sign such a short deal, when he has all the bargaining power despite his off ice reputation. I think a reasonable deal would be 5-6 years at 6-7 million per.
And yes please to a Hanafin for Reinhart deal....I don't dislike Rhino it's just the skating, the skating, the skating. Hanafin is a potential top 2.

it'd probably be + on either side to make it work but this is one i think makes sense for both sides
And no it doesnt mean reinhart sucks or that hes fat |

I think Reinhart is underrated, and the coaching the last couple years did not help him or suit him. I am really interested in what he does this year. I see him as a young Chris Drury.
I say no. |

Hate to agree with a Leaf fan about anything but yeah, I can't see the Canes making this deal right now. |

maybe, but you never know...see hall/Larsson or even jones/Johansson--both not even-up trades but both exchanging players from positions of strength for positions of need |

Ya but Reinhart is not in the category of either hall or Johansson.
He's good but not Hanifin good. |

IIRC both jones and Larsson were playing over 20 minutes a night for their teams before those deals were made
Hanifin is averaging less than 18 mins. There's risk on either side |

the d is already much better with antipin and guhle
no need to move kane, unless he wont sign or reinhart
instead move bogo or moulson and free up some cap to make that splash |

Absolutely....seems like Reinhart's (all of them) dont translate to the NHL very well. Yes, Sam had 20+ goals. That is great. I just dont see him as an elite guy.
That said..If Sam and EK9 disappear for defense...we have HUGE holes on the wings. thats 1/2 of our top 6 singers. Bailey/Baptiste etc are not ready for top 6 roles...
If Okposo is able to come back 100%, that is great, but I wouldn't count on it immediately.
I trust GMJB to do the right things and look forward to seeing what he does.

It's better, but we're talking about 2 rookies. asking either of them to step in and play top 4 mins right away is a tall order.
You also need assets to make a splash....like kane or reinhart or whatever you get for kane in a separate deal . |
