I mean, if you're not going to include Bogo in what was returned to us, you might as well not include grigo and stafford to the other teams. - TheSabresTaco
Umm I said that's all we got for Myers Lemieux staff and a pick if we dealt Kane, all we have to show for it is bogo kasdorf and whatever pick we get from Kane.
To summarize if Kane was dealt for a second rounder;
out: Myers, Staff, Lemieux, Kane, first rounder.
in: Kasdorff Bogo second round pick.
Cant see how that's good in any way
If including the ROR trade as well add Comper, Grigs Zadorov and a second to the out list and ROR and McGinn to the in list. Nothing wrong with ROR but if he is the best player you could get with everything you sent out, not good. |

If there was ever a year to use your number 1 as trade bait this is the year. Soft draft, expansion team, and in true Sabres style we got screwed on the lottery, again! |

eeli tolvanen might be a bit of a reach there. if they want to go forward pettersson would make a little more sense. you could trade down and land tolvanen though. - Sabresfan-365
Perhaps. I didint necessary mean at 8 so yea I think you may be able to trade down a couple spots and grab him. Which may actually be a decent idea if Makar, Tippett are gone. I like Tolvanen alot though. I think he will spend the one year in collage and could be ready to make transition to pro sooner than most. I know he met with the sabres at the combine |

that's also false, unless you're not referring to the 4 most recent drafts - TheSabresTaco
pretty sure it was the last 4, not 2017, based on starters last year

I was ecstatic when Buffalo traded for the rights to Kasdorf. I went to RPI and saw every one of his home and many of his road starts and he was an absolute game changer in the NCAA for his first two years. He took a step back after being rushed through a shoulder injury, even then his numbers were among league best.
There is no way GMTM could have known he would have suffered that shoulder injury just like he had no idea kulikov would be playing the 16/17 with an injured spine. |

The reason someone would care would be that if they do sign Kulikov within the tampering period that would count as our expansion pick |

i do too, really high shot generating rate 5v5. will likely be a one dimensional guy though so not sure how high im willing to grab him in this draft. |

To be honest our prospect cupboard is running dry.
Really any of the top 10 prospects will be great at this time.
Liljgren is good but I think we could trade down to get him. Which wouldn't be a bad idea. |

"some sort of regularity" is, what, 2-3 games?
look, I get it and unless you or I are scouts who can watch multiple games and have the opportunity to get to know everything about the player, all we have is second, third or fourth hand knowledge - Michael Pachla
a little more than that but yea its whatever. Im just not a fan and think there are better options to explore. |

Maybe in terms of being a pure goal scorer and not a playmaker. But i think his 2 way game is pretty developed. |

i havent really seen enough out of him just going based on numbers seems to be a pure offensive/goal getter. |

I'm done trading 1st round picks for NHL ready players. TM did it, and look where it got us! Build the team through the draft, especially when you have the luxury of having the 8th pick, and 2nds. Take 2 dmen with the first 2 picks. While experts say this draft is void of elite level talent, it surely does offer plenty of kids who can develop into fine NHL players.
Look, Murray put this organization in a complete mess. It's going to take a while no matter who we bring in as our coach, and how great we overhaul this pathetic defense. We do have a solid core we can obviously build around, so there is no starting from scratch. But the problem with TM was that he was far too impatient, and wanted to build a team that could make the playoffs way too soon, especially after being a historically bad team for 2 years.
So even though it does suck, if you want it done the right way, then most likely it will take another 3 years before we seriously start talking playoffs. And it starts with this and next years draft. I'm not saying we shouldn't make any trades, or sign any FAs, but look at the teams on the rise like Nashville, Minnesota, Florida (even tho they had an off year) and TB. All of their players were drafted and developed.
Sure, we could start trading picks and prospects again, and probably contend for a playoff spot this year. But I'm not willing to morgtage the future again for immediate gratification. I want to be good for the long term, not just be fighting for the 8 seed for 2 or 3 years. Keep the picks, continue to develop the prospects we do have, and sit back and wait. Oh and by the way, we do have Jack Eichel to ease the pain of maybe losing for another year or 2, by watching one of the best players in the league battle it out with these other great kids. I'm fine with that.
Again, Murray didn't leave us in a very good situation, so doing it right will take a while, but Jack, Sam, Guhle, Risto will all be coming into their prime when it's time to contend for the Cup. Chew on that for a minute, and maybe it won't be so bad - Dukey3030
Well said Duke. |

And you would be correct but i think thats exactly the type of winger prospect we need. I think he compares favorably to a guy like Tippett but comes at a lower cost. An personally i think he a step ahead developmentally |

And my point is they didn't. You're right, premier players dont come along very often. You're supposed to draft them. Of the moves murray made he got maybe one. - Sabresfan-365
Supposed to trade for premiere players as well.
Drafting them at the very top of the draft is good but to get them later on is hit or miss. Trading for a young premier player gets you a guarantee. |

For a couple of years he was projected only behind Patrick! Then an injury and or mono? Happen and he took a step back, again the scouting departments are hopefully prepared for this year's crop, cause the talent is apparently so close(especially dmen) you don't want to be the team that passed on perhaps the next, dare I say Karlsson? - MR.Hunter
Sean Day was projected to compete with Matthews for number 1 last year. Where did that end up? |

He certainly did, he repeatedly got beaten glove side (the side with the injured shoulder). It just looked like every shot glove side he was a step behind. If you watched his (only) game as a Sabre all but one of those goals was over his glove.
After watching him steal game after game with 40+ saves (RPI didn't play much defense) it was definitely a disappointment to watch him after the injury and in the pros. |
