New draft scenario for fun:
Sabres trade down to the mid first round and pick up an extra 2nd round pick:
Sabres take Callen Foote or Brannnstrom
Use 2 seconds to get back into the bottom of the first round and take Vaakanainen or Hague
Draft forwards the rest of the draft - MCGUIZZY
Or keep #8 to draft Liljegren and use their 2 2nds to draft Foote or Brannstrom ... but agree need a couple of good D prospects first |

that would have meant that the defending Stanley cup champs, TBL, could have won...or the powerhouse wings...the avs, boston, Toronto, etc.... - Michael Pachla
Oh-(frank)ing-well. That's what you get for having a (frank)ing lockout AGAIN, only some 10 years after the last one. An entire year off meant that the first place teams could very well have lost a step or two and in the case of TBL, they did. |

Liljegren is taking a big fall. Could be this years Chychrun. I would not take him at 8 personally |

I agree everyone should have been equal. Their thought was "Teams were assigned 1 to 3 balls based on their playoff appearances and first overall draft picks from the past three years. " So they had that thought then, but when the Oilers win it 3 times, why not 4? Such crap. I hate being bitter about this stuff, but come on.
And so from what you are saying, Carolina should win the lottery next year. I will be watching for that. Such crap. - Lilroot9
I actually thought Carolina looked really good 2nd half of this past season, I expect them to be a bubble team next year and a sleeper to make the playoffs.

39 said it is going to be Housley 100% - BeadyEyedDouche
I heard they will meet with Tocchet first do to maybe some uncertainty that Housley may not want to leave, but they will 100% talk with him.
PLEASE NOTE: this is only what I heard and by no means am I saying 39 is wrong. |

Its all good, regardless of certain wankery, I think we all appreciate you, 39, homie and homer's information.
BTW, wtf is homer? |

I'd take a guy that can step in like Chychrun did this season ... depends on if the fall is only related to having mono and missing games or other reasons |

Yea i hear you. I just think you could easily trade down a bit to get him. I know he would be eligible to play in the AHL this upcoming season which would make it more tempting to take him. i guess id want to know where he wants to play next year. |

would you rather a guy who's ceiling is a #3 or 4 but can step in right away or a guy who's ceiling is a #1?
Not making that claim about any player in particular but thats the danger in looking at futures with that kind of mentality.
Chychrun stepped in right away because arizona is trash, not because he was particularly impressive. |

Foote maybe ... Brannstrom's size worries me

Sabres have taken too many long shots at guys with higher ceilings only for them to bomb ... we could use someone with a higher chance of being a solid #3 or #4 ... not saying that Liljegren is definitely that guy
Edit - This #8 pick cannot be a bust |

im curious who you're referring to?
sabres have often been criticized as taking too many safe guys, particularly in later rounds.
The grigorenko pick comes up a lot but i actually think of all the picks that was the one that was most indicative of playing it safe.
They just took the guy who was ranked the highest |

I think drafting based on a player's ceiling is a sucker' s game. Grigorenko comes to mind. I pick the guy who is a #4 dman now over the guy who's a 6 now but has the potential to be better in the long run |

Can't both be true?
He (so far) is better than where he was drafted. I'd rather have him than Nylander and I am not sure that it's close.

But both aren't true. He wasnt very impressive in the few games i saw including the non sabres related ones and his numbers dont really back it up either.
Id take nylander again |
