And cal was not signing in buffalo, but Florida. - gordong
I really doubt he signs with us, tbh. Florida was a playoff team just last year and Luongo ain't getting any younger. He didn't have a very good season. But who knows. I just don't see Buffalo happening. |

I heard they will meet with Tocchet first do to maybe some uncertainty that Housley may not want to leave, but they will 100% talk with him.
PLEASE NOTE: this is only what I heard and by no means am I saying 39 is wrong. - SABRES 89
That's why Panthers signed the Boogieman ... Housley's uncertainty and they wanted to make sure they got one of their top 2 guys

Can't both be true?
He (so far) is better than where he was drafted. I'd rather have him than Nylander and I am not sure that it's close. - sbroads24
I'm with you. I wanted chicken run last year. |

David Pagnotta is saying that Fluery has waived his NMC (for expansion only, which was known earlier) but Fluery also submitted his 12 team no trade list. The only one David knows on that 12 team list... Buffalo.
I'm glad cause I dont want him, but the hits just keep coming. lol |

Fine by me. Watch him play 6 games this season. Better choice for him anyway, they should make the playoffs. |

But both aren't true. He wasnt very impressive in the few games i saw including the non sabres related ones and his numbers dont really back it up either.
Id take nylander again - Sabresfan-365
He had more 5 on 5 points that our #1 defender despite playing 10 less minutes a game on a worse team.
He also had a positive rel. corsi on AZ
Hell, he had 8 less NHL points than Nylander had AHL points while being a defensemen |

I want no part of Fluery and I am baffled why people are so down on Lehner. Dude is Biron 2.0 and I loved Biron. Terribly under-rated goalie.
Biron and Miller's career stats are almost identical, even with Miller's Vezina season. And Biron played on a garbage team in Buffalo most of his tenure. |

he was also hella sheltered and still got poop on. shot generation about average and shot suppression well below that.
Im not saying hes going to be bad, the original point i was making was about ceiling and the pick stepping in right away. in general i want someone with the higher ceiling that may take some time vs the guy who can step in right away but whose impact may be that of a 3 or 4. |

I heard we took him with our 1st pick last year.... How did he end up in Arizona? |
|
|
|
im curious who you're referring to?
sabres have often been criticized as taking too many safe guys, particularly in later rounds.
The grigorenko pick comes up a lot but i actually think of all the picks that was the one that was most indicative of playing it safe.
They just took the guy who was ranked the highest - Sabresfan-365
Grigs
Armia
Kassian
Even Girgs and Pysyk underachieved as compared to where they were drafted ... but I think Girgs can turn it around with a new coach |

underacheiving isnt the same as being a risky or safe pick. girgs was your classic try hard grinder that was projected to be solid. same with pysyk "safe reliable smooth" classic buzzwords for defencemen who will be boring as poop.
Kassian...maybe. There's always one guy like that in every draft the "lucic 2.0" thing that one team falls for every year.
Ill give you armia |

just cause some idiot moved a first for him doesnt make him worth that and it doesnt make trading a top 10 pick in any draft for a glorified 2nd pairing guy worth it - Sabresfan-365

if you want the team to operate under the assumption that risto isnt a clear #1, thats the sort of approach you'd need to take no? |

If that's all we needed was a #1, then sure, absolutely.
I agree with taking the guy that has a higher ceiling, but I think the assumption that Chychrun's ceiling is 3/4 is off too.
He was a projected top 3 pick because his ceiling is higher |

To be fair, the Sabres were not targeting Pysyk that draft. They wanted Tinordi or Sheahan I believe |

Pretty much yea. They were planning on picking him and then Montreal traded up and picked him before we could. They were reportedly very pissed when that happened. |

Probably. I mean yea he sucks. And he 100% would have been drafted by the Sabres had he been there

We can stop the game for 10 minutes to check if a guys toe is 2 millimeters off the ice...but cant review and overturn blatantly good goals.... |

Fair enough and at the time Kassian was a beast in junior so I didn't have an issue at the time ... but we need our future 1st round picks to be contributing more (like 3 of the last 4 years) ... not struggling to make the roster ... BTW I agree with you that I want the guy with the higher ceiling but not at the risk they're not going to work out ... I would rather take a higher risk on a guy in the later rounds ... that being said not all the time either ... thanks for giving me Armia ... I guess I could have added Lemieux too |
