Bailey & Baptiste have speed,
but also have showed to be better scorers throughout their development

It's not like Larsson can't skate
He moved good enough (along with a Foligno & Gionta) to be matched up against other teams good scoring lines

Not saying Carrier sucks,
but his speed alone isn't enough for me to say he MUST be protected

Also,
Larsson & Girgensons can play center
That versatility has its value

- jdfitz77

Your last point about playing center is not a hot take cuz both of them have shown to be only good at center but pretty awful on the boards. We have Girgs, Larsson, Erod for now to battle for the 3 and 4 center spots, and Asplund in the wings. That's great depth but its not cool if any are required to play wing imo.

It got worse in his absence. Idk, if my choice is between protecting Larsson, girgs, or Carrier, I'd take larsson
- jcragcrumple

Acutally, I believe it got better. One of the best in the league the last month of the season. 365, any way to fact check that?

You guys are reading wayyyyyy too much into this "he forgot Reinhart and/or EKane" cr@p.

The guy just had the most whirlwind last 4 days, interviewing for the job of his dreams, coming off a helluva playoff run, is probably doing interview after interview, has a gazillion things on his mind right now, etc etc etc

I think he can be excused for forgetting a player or two. It's not as if Reinhart and Kane are Crosby and McDavid.

When are all the trades the media experts have been predicting going to happen? This is as bad as the friggin TDL this past year.

When the GM and coach do multiple interviews and don't mention him I see a trend and I do research and look for trends but who knows.

phil housley without the sabres past still wouldve been the best candidate available, just like botterill was even without his past.
- Sabresfan-365

If you're talking about the Sabres I forgot he even played here for a minute.

Yeah, but that had nothing to do with expansion.

not entirely true, moving drouin frees up an expansion spot up front for the lightning.

Does it? He only has 2 accrued years. Just like Jack and Sam.

I'm not sure how I feel about his new deal. $5.5M for 6 years. On one hand it could be a steal, on the other it could be a bit pricey. Would you give that deal to Sam right now? Production is about the same. And Sam is a center on top of it.

That's what I thought too, but I saw another post about it helping them protect Palat...so I guess there are other rules I'm not aware of. Thought he'd be exempt as well.

With Housley specifically mentioning he think Ennis is a good player,
I think it's Carrier who gets exposed

Even with all the time on the top6 last year, he hardly produced
Meanwhile, Larsson was pretty solid on line3

- jdfitz77

I agree... Carrier can fly but he's not a finisher...can't score for sh!t

Im not sure where you're getting this from, he was drafted in 2013 and played his first pro season in 14-15

I don't hate the player
There's just other wingers I have ahead of him

Even though he doesn't skate like Carrier,
Larsson has shown to be pretty decent in other aspects imo

That said...
I see Larsson as our 4th line center (want Sam moved to 3C)
So if we lost him, it's not like I'd be super upset

Yeah, but he only has 2 seasons of more than 41 games. If it was just draft year than Sam would have to be protected too.

He only has 2 years toward UFA.

carrier has a lot of speed, though...good argument for him to be protected

I don't see it.

I don't and never did hate Carrier... I actually loved the speed he brought when he first had an opportunity, but after a few games I could see that he really didn't have "it" as far as a goal scorer. All go - no show... but a guy that can chuck the knuckles and has a lot of speed may have a chance on the someone's 4th line

You don't say?

I've still yet to see the actual official rules that get into the nitty gritty like the CBA. As far as UFA is concerned he only has 2 pro seasons. And if that's not the case then Sam has to be protected too. So why does one have to be protected, but not the other?

I'm with ya...Larsson is the only one out of that group who doesn't have speed...he skates well enough, but carrier, batiste and bailey can fly...what those three can't do that Larsson does is agitate...when he's on his game, Larsson gets under the skin of the opponent
- Michael Pachla

Agreed ... Larsson has had more chances than the others to impress and hasn't done so ... his skating is lacking ... already reached his ceiling so no big deal if he's gone

Exactly ... I can see Rhino developing into a Bergeron type guy ... he just needs to get back the work ethic from last year and be like he was with ROR
