That is the sad part, our suspect defense is better than our forward group.
It is going to take one pick at a time to fix this mess.
Hopefully we build through the draft, and occasional trade for a young piece. - Reubenkincade
That is very true but with OJ in the wings & this draft & next we can draft them.
Potential for the Dahlin sweepstakes is enticing for sure.
Brisebois is the forgotten piece & Chatfield is a solid defensive D for the future.
Tryamkin is still in the picture as well. |

It does get rather entertaining. - Reubenkincade
we could do with another poor finish and high draft pick, but if it isn't in the top 3, we will see some villagers with torches and pitchforks headed to gate 16.
but like you said, draft and develop and hopefully some of these prospects become productive nhlers. |

I wouldn't mind trading Tanev for 3OA then making a trade for either Ceci or Dumba |

Off to another tangent...
I do like how JB is building up the character on our roster.
Of all the intangibles it is a high priority in my books.
Its also the hardest thing to measure but is a necessity. |

IMO Ceci is untouchable tbh.
He would fetch a ton. |

Your trade proposals dont say "win-now" enough for me to get hysterical. Can we see some proposals for Varlamov, OEL, Jordan Staal, or Ryan O'Reilly where we give up some picks and prospects to get into the WC hunt? |

yep. The Vegas draft is interesting, there is opportunity with teams wanting to make moves or lose assets but to take advantage of this you could lose or have to expose an asset yourself. Just waiting on some trades or signings.

Karlson, Methot, Phaneuf are their 3 protected D. I doubt they do 4-4-1. Ceci will be avail or lost to LV. |

Say for a moment we get Gally for Tanev & our expansion roster is fine...
Dank Hank Granny
Sven BO Boeser
Goldy Gally LE
JV Sutter DD
Does that look balanced & deep?
Ignore the usual what line is what number...
Also factor in the Sedins retire after next season. - Nighthawk
Those forward lines look great, shame we would have an AHL/ECHL quality D-corps supporting them...
That said, I'm all for a Tanev for Gally trade. Kid has ELITE hands, though poor and lazy D-zone play. After watching him play in MTL, he seems much better suited for the wing. |

Then why trade for him? It's like trading for Kane. Why give up the last best tradable asset away for a winger. Doesn't this team need top C & D more? Wouldn't a trade for draft picks and prospects be more attainable to fill the needs? |

People wanting to add this guy as a UFA is why Aquaman has been avoiding a rebuild. Canucks rebuild started 20 regular season games ago, and fans already want to add a guy that will turn 27 for the first puck drop of his next contract so the team will "contend" for a WC spot - WhiteLie
There is only a few people that are advocating to have this individual on the Canucks, and I'm not one of them...regardless if someone states that his substance abuse and his destructive abusive attitudes are behind him. |

Nonsense. He's only 23. MTL's problem was attempting to rush him into being a first line C. At the moment, (in MTL), he's better suited for the wing due to the fact that they remain without a top 6 center, exposing him against match-ups he's not ready for. If we acquired him, we could ease him in on the 3rd line or so.
We would trade for him because he would instantly become our best and likely most productive forward, be it on the wing or at C. Given his trajectory, I think it's safe to assume he will be a PPG player in the league.
Moving a 28 year old D-man for a 23 year old who has already notched 30 goals is a no-brainer. |

While the D corps lags behind it helps us pick high in future drafts. |

No it's not in the big picture. Not saying it's a bad trade value wise. It's just why make that trade given the needs? If he's not good enough to be a C for a Habs team desperate for C then he's not going to develop into more on this thin on top C team. But more so it's not like JB has any more assets to move. So what's more important? |
