If Anaheim chooses to protect more Defenseman....could Cogliano be available? He's an ideal 3C, imo. - YouMeAndDupuis9

Wow. Ducks buying out Simon Despres.
Even GMJR's "bad" trades seem to be coming up gold. |

Someone gets it! From what I saw this past season offence isn't the main issue to take care of, its defence and would much have a puck moving defenceman for 5.5m/year then a third line centre making it. Bonino will take 3/3.5m a year and stay. |

Older players like Thornton, Kunitz, etc need to be offered "Please let me play the game money" and nothing more
It's what made the Cullen signing so great. At 38 he was 1 year $700k, at 39 after a great season 1 year at $1 million
Kunitz: 1 year 1.5 million or 2 years 2.5 million
Thornton: 1 year 3 million, 2 years 5.5 million

Word is Montreal is not going to qualify Nikita Nesterov.. Pens should scoop him up in a heart beat. - j.boyd919
Interesting. Is his lack of GP due to injury or Cooper? |

Bonino probably won't make that much less than Thornton. I'd guess they'll be within a million. If you feel that gives you an advantage, you can find 1M.
They need to address both really. And while offense isn't a problem, the goal should just be to improve, doesn't matter where. Pens have the ability with a good 3C to create mismatches. |

I just believe Sam Bennett will be an amazing player in the NHL. If GMJR is looking for physical & skill players, then I hope GMJR targets this type of player: YOUNGER, with great skill, and some grit (Bennett was 4th on CGY forwards in hits with only 14+ TOI last year).
Here is youtube of Bennett scoring some goals. all these goals where in one game!

Here he is with some nice goals and some speed!

Grit: Just for you Boyd (just kidding I like Trouba, too - but difficult to get him)

You have to let Sam Bennett go...its not happening... |

Pens signed Filip Gustavsson to a 3 year entry level contract today. So he'll be around the AHL this year. |

Yeah he was never treated wrong there. Not like they stripped the C from him or anything. |

Cooper. He picks and choose his players that he is going to keep on a short leash. Drouin and Nesterov were always in the doghouse a lot.
He's like... a younger version of Trevor Daley |

Oh haha...well thanks for setting me straight. IMO he's better off in AHL for development...but I'm not the GM...and not back to back Stanley Cup team building GM at that...I'll trust the decision/process. |

Looked around and Despres actually came off IR and was skating in the playoffs but didn't get in a game. Maybe not quite healed, maybe too rusty. But I'd be interested in taking a look. |

He's a righty, can skate and move the puck efficiently. He also loves blocking shots and playing with a bit of an edge.
I wouldnt mind having him for depth. Not one bit. |

I'd love to get him back assuming he is past his injuries. That was a pretty high priced contract he had so they might be able to get him on a 1yr show me. Good bottom pairing option. |

Lefty, but plays either D well. Stronger defensively than offensively, but not a disaster their either. Would be a nice guy to take a chance on. I definitely would like to add a good buy low candidate for that 3rd pairing spot. |

I personally hope Bonino gets blown out the water from a contract in UFA. He has been criminally underpaid his entire career and deserves a big contract. - cap1681
yep bonino needs paid. Thornton needs a cup. Swapping them makes a lot of sense for both players. |

I always thought he was a righty...perhaps he mainly played RD despite this? |
