Someone gets it! From what I saw this past season offence isn't the main issue to take care of, its defence and would much have a puck moving defenceman for 5.5m/year then a third line centre making it. Bonino will take 3/3.5m a year and stay. - Darklight11
OK....find me a stud defenseman we can go out and sign.
Alzner is a bum. The only dman really worth signing is shatty and then a few 4d type guys. Thornton outside of shatty is the only guy I really want to throw money at.
Grabbing a difference maker dman thru trade will be tough. |

I always thought he was a righty...perhaps he mainly played RD despite this? - MattStrat
Yes, at least here he did. I don't think he's the guy who solves our possession problem, but he's at least an upgraded Cole type as a 5D who can move up wherever he's needed with an injury. Quite possibly a 2nd pair guy, at least that's what he looked like prior to injuries. But just as a guy who can skate, kill penalties, plays physical, decent offensive tools, and ability to play either side when the lineup needs adjusted would be nice to have. |

Yes the Pens should target thornton and yes you're crazy if you disagree
Kessel and Thornton on the 3rd line! Deadly
Trade Hagelin, fleury goes in expansion.
Resign Sheary 3mil, Dumoulin 3mil, Schultz 4.75 and Daley 1.5
Sign Jumbo 4.5 and Chad Johnson 1mil
Aston Reese plays on the 3rd with Kessel and Joe.
Sundqvist can try for 4LC
Leaves with about 2 mil in space
Yes the numbers above are conservative, and the allure of another cup may be able to sell those guys on taking less money. |

Unrealistic trade for Kovalchuk just so he can play with Sundqvist. Questionable cap compliance, Kovulchuk won't be cheap. No center depth. So mostly the Kovulchuk stuff is fantasy and ignores the hole at center. Started off well enough.
Honest question, can Nesterov play RD? |

Are there any european/russian players outside of Kovalchuk potentially coming to the NHL?
Perhaps two really good defenseman, only this time we get the defensive version of Panarin and Chicago gets the defensive version of Plotnikov |

Why is it an unrealistic trade for Kovy? 3C doesn't matter much if your top 2 Cs are Sid and Geno with a 3L of Kovys talent. |

Rumor is the Wild are scrambling to get rid of a D-man. Dumba or Brodin. Trade for one of them. Price might be a bit high. But this years draft is considered weak from what I read so Pens don't lose much if they give up the 31st pick. But what level of and how many prospects would it take to get one of them realistically? Dumba is the better choice since he's cheap for one more year at 2.55 mil then an RFA. Brodin is at 4.1 mil for 4 years.
Edit: Wild blogger also said they might be looking to move Coyle too. He's a average to above average 3C. |

You gave ip a 2018 2nd and 2 struggling prospects for a guy you then said is good enough he doesn't need a center. Pretty sure someone will top that. |

Id be totally down for Dumba and or Coyle. I really cant see them wanting to move either though. |

Isn't today the last day to make trades before the expansion draft? I thought there'd be more deals going down.

Offer-sheet the big Sam Bennett because Joe Thornton is old and out of shape and his assist totals are way way overrated. SAD! |

I want duchene over Thornton if Thornton is coming in at 5.5 mil. If ek is even relatively right about the pens inquiring about duchene, I want him everyday over Thornton. I'm not discrediting Thornton, but duchene has wheels and would probably mesh with our playing style better than Thornton would.
But hey, I'd (frank)ing love Thornton too. What a predicament to have. |

They can't protect all the D-men they like so they want to trade one instead of losing him to the expansion draft. Plus they are not good in the salary cap. Ponnenville is wasted money. They're having a hard time coming up with cap space for key guys like Nino and Granlund. |

I've been all on board the Jumbo train for a while now. I'd like to see a two year deal with a cap hit less closer to 5 mil than 6 mil over a one year 6 mil contract. I will bet any amount of money he'll be worth that cap hit the next two years and he'll come off the books just in time to extend Guentzel.
I agree with RW. I really don't think this is a pipe dream. At 38, he might even WELCOME a reduced role. The only other team I can see competing against us for Joe if he decides to leave the Sharks is Nashville if he's truly cup chasing. |
