Just playing devil's advocate...Goal scoring ability is more valuable than playmaking ability in this league. Didn't back read to hear the whole debate, but it seems as though some comparison is being drawn...not sure those two can be juxtaposed because Kane scores at such a higher rate.
As an example, would you rather have:
10g 30a - 40pts
30g 10a - 40pts
I think most will say the latter. - RhinoFan
Seems obvious

Are they though?
Or is it just assumed?
Just bc Fleury is willing to waive for Vegas doesn't mean they want him
McPhee could want Grubauer to be his starting goalie
Then he could take a defenseman from Pitt - jdfitz77
I think they made a deal already. Otherwise Pittsburgh would just trade him.
I kind of think that Vegas will be giving a pick back too or taking a salary dump type player in addition. That is a great starting goalie and could have gotten something via trade. |

Has Grubauer been qualified yet? He needs to be in order to be exposed.
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list. |

You can't embed HERO charts. Unless someone knows a trick. Maybe screen shot it and then upload it to a hosting site and then post that. |

yeah seems like a lot to deal with for something youd like to just casually post for conversation.
Long story short, it was Brendan Smith vs Jonas Brodin and why id rather just trade for one players rights and sign him rather than pay out the ass for the other. |

No, he doesn't...
U gotta stop focusing on the rules bc u keep misinterpreting them
Each team has to expose a certain number of ppl at each position that meet certain requirements
That does NOT prevent Vegas from selecting a player who is not protected but doesn't meet those requirements
Copley meets the goalie requirement for the Caps,
so Grubauer doesn't have to |

Is definitely rather have Kane. And agree goal scoring is the better quality
But it's also a fact that goal scoring ability is the first to start to dip as a player gets older |

That's not cherry picking
If I were to compare Versteeg's goals to Kane's,
That's cherry picking
Same way it is to compare points vs points
The best way to compare any player is by what they do best
For Versteeg, its points... which is mediocre
Your argument holds true that Kane's point totals are mediocre
However, he is a GOOD (at least) goal scorer
Versteeg can't be considered GOOD in any respect - jdfitz77
But goals are included in the points total, so how is that possibly cherry picking?
You're the one who's narrowing the information down. That's the definition of cherry picking |

No, I'm not
Kane's value is defined by his ability to score goals
True or false? |

You can't expose a UFA. Copley is a UFA.
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
Copley is neither under contract nor a qualified RFA.
I haven't seen anything that says Vegas can sign an RFA negating their pick, only UFAs negating their pick. If you can show me they can sign RFAs who aren't protected then fine, but I haven't seen that. |

im not 100% convinced but a cursory look into hamonic's numbers makes me think he would be a good buy low option.
He had a bad year but biggest diff year to year was his change in role. Last year he maintained about even zone time offensive and defensive. seems like this year they relied on him a lot more defensively (i assume in part cause boychuk isnt what he used to be) and his numbers took a nosedive. |

I like him, but can't see him in an uptempo top 4 that Housley might like |

my very loose counter to that would be it seems like he is more likely to succeed in an uptempo style than one that would require him to be some sort of stalwart. But i dont watch the guy enough |
