No to Phaneuf.....he's a cancer.....that's why he has bounced around as much as he has for a player of his alleged calibre. We don't have to win the cup next season....and saddling the Oilers with a cancer in the dressing room with a big contract for many years is a stupid idea.

Phaneuf is actually a solid top 4D-man in the NHL and can actually be a solid #3 - which he proved in the playoffs. I would be very comfortable with him at 4 x 5m but right now that 7m cap hit makes it look much worse.

In the playoffs, when it is OK to mak ethe opposing forwards piggy-back you around the ice, then Phanoof and Methot are top 4 guys.

Interesting perspective. Since Eberle is at a low value right now, I would guess any impetus to trade him is to get money off the books. On the other hand Ottawa is the same with Phaneuf. So they are two sellers
