they traded a third and will likely give him sheltered minutes on the bottom pair. Bogosian is badgosian because they give him like 10 minutes too many 4.5 million too much and way too much defensive zone time.

Sheltered minuites is fine.. As long as they don't try and Kulikov us and say he's the top four guy they were looking for.. BADgosian should be a bottom pairing guy though.. And if he's out there with Beaulieu they could break the record for minus... |

Could be... Though doesn't have the same pop to it that BADgosian does. |

If they're both bottom pair that would mean either they play bottom minutes with different partners or they're partners all the time meaning they will be in their own zone together which scares me. Actually every single D on our team looked bad in the zone last year. McCabe looked good to pretty good early on but regressed in his own end. And I'm pretty sure Antipin is suppose to be an offensive first defenceman. |

Yeah...lots of offensive D on our side. Bogo, Antipin, Risto, Beaulieu are all less than spectacular in their own end...but we did just hire a defenseman, well versed in the art of the rush, as our coach. I'm just hoping that this is a match made in heaven due to his style of play/coaching. If we want defenders who can jump into the play, we now have 4. 5 if you count McCabe, which I probably wouldn't yet. |

McCabe is more of a stay at home guy. Hopefully he can get better in that end as he really dropped off towards the end of the year.
That being said we really need to have a true shutdown guy in our own zone in the top four. Brodin would've been perfect for that. |

mccabe has looked his best in a puck moving role, something botterill and i bet housley would agree with.
Brodin ain't a shut down guy, hes just perceived that way because hes big and swedish. |

why? bottom pair means far fewer minutes against far lesser competition. This is exactly where you want your low iq/high talent players.

I watched him play on the PK in the playoffs in big minutes. That's all I needed to see. |

Because if both of them are really, really bad in their own end then no matter how many minutes they get together you'd suspect anytime they get caught in their own end it will be big time trouble. |

i watched them get spanked. thats all i needed to see.
Brendan Smith brings similar value and you dont have to give up 8th overall+ for him
Edit: to be more precise i dont believe brodin is a top pair shut down guy |

they wont be great in their own end but its up to the hall of fame coach to put them in a position where they will succeed more often than they will fail
like schultz in pittsburgh. |

I think Housley can turn this bunch around . Maybe even Bogosian. Too many gloomy Guses around here. You don't always have to look for the worst in everything. I look forward to the Leafs and Sabres having a great rivalry again. But it seems some folks around hear would rather be miserable.

I saw McCabe get stretched too thin at like game 20 and I think that was due to minutes and the role we asked of him. I think he could get better defensively this year just based on the fact that he might not be needed for so many minutes.
I liked the idea of Brodin, but sounds like the cost would have been exorbitant. I agree with not trading 8+ for him...don't really see him as a shutdown guy though looking at adv stats. |

hes got decent shot suppression numbers, but decent is what goes on the 2nd pair, not first.
youd be paying first pair value for him and then placing a lot of pressure on him and risto to suddenly turn into ekholm/subban. |

Yeah and that's the part that didn't interest me. Personally, I think we depend on Risto's endurance wayyyyy too much as it is. Brodin would help, but not solve the problem. If I'm paying sports car prices, I want a Ferrari or a Porsche. I think what Minnie wanted was 100k for a fast Mustang.
If Plan B was to grab a project like Beaulieu and wait for the next opportunity...smart. |

More like a Nissan Altima. A fine car(I've owned 2), but not exactly outstanding in any way. |
