I would take Methot, McQuaid or Johnson. Brendan Smith also. - SABRES 89
At this point,
I guess I'm hoping they'll have an extra defenseman we can snag from them
Seems like they made A LOT of deals though
I'm still shocked that basically no trades happened |

Based on what?
(Asking sincerely) - jdfitz77
Well I was going to say I've never seen him play, but ironically I think I actually have. Went to a Rochester game last year.
But anyways, mostly scouting reports and stuff, and the fact he's almost 23 and hasn't seen much NHL time |

A 6 year $24M-$27M deal isn't that bad for a top 4 D. That might be a bit high for Smith. He's a solid player, and more than anything that's what we need. - Wetbandit1
Until the playoffs this year,
Smith has been inconsistent & never met expectations
Maybe he can be a solid top4 guy for us...
But it seems very risky to me to offer him a long term deal that we'd be stuck with if he doesn't work out
Don't hate the guy...
but I never was like "that Brenden Smith is a good player!" either
(Except for this year's playoffs)
And he's played under Babcock for most his career
So it's not like he's been stuck in some awful situation the whole time |

All is not lost, this whole thing just started and Botterill has just started also, give it time. |

Most organizations bring guys along slowly
He's played 3 years in the AHL
19 goals in 75games his first year
For reference,
Bailey had 20g in 70games... in 75 games, it works out to 21goals
Baptiste had 13 in 62... in 75 games, 16goals
Year two, prorated to 75 games for continuity
Hudon- 31goals
Bailey- 33goals
Baptiste- 32goals
Hudon 3rd year...
improved his goals per game to 36 over a 75game span
Not saying the kid is Kucherov
But who would u rather have...
Emelin or Bailey?
I'll take Bailey
Especially since they'll have plenty of other options on defense

I didn't say all is lost
But this had the potential to work out much better for us
It didn't, so oh well
Still disappointing though |

Their stats are comparable but I'm still taking Bailey 9 times out of 10. Maybe that's just my bias talking but idk.
I just could see flipping Emelin at the deadline for a 2nd. I mean Polak got two seconds last year, Emelin has to be able to get at least one |

The only guys I remember standing out in that game were Bailey and De la Rose.
De la Rose because he's (frank)ing huge
and I think Bailey scored the shootout winner |

Would u rather have a 2nd, or a prospect like Bailey?
Obviously Bailey, right?
That's why I take Hudon over Emelin
They'll still be able to take Methot, Johnson, Dillon, McQuaid, etc etc
And trade all of them for picks |

If Bailey were 23 with 6 nhl games played, I'd take the 2nd
Theoretically with that 2nd you could draft somebody just as good or better who's also 5 years younger |

Look back on all the 2nd round picks that end up being misses instead of hits & I think you might change your mind |

Bailey's not exactly a "hit" yet himself. He's promising. But most NA kid drafted in the 2nd round is promising 3, 4 years after they're drafted.
If it was a top 7 ish in the 2nd round in a solid draft. I'm going for a do over. |

So seems like Vegas is trying their best to get top notch (1st or early second) round picks from teams as part of this expansion draft. In reality, if you have a player you have spent years on (development) and seems to be a NHL player, I would give up my second round pick in a second. It's the first rounder that is hard to give up. Now like Columbus to give up a 1st (24th overall) to take Clarkson and that be the player they "lose" is not that much due to shedding that salary.
I hope the Sabres give up a deal like this:
Sabres get
Dumba (I think he is better than the rest available)
Vegas gets
1st round (8th)
Moulson / Bogosian
(and might have to include a Carrier too)
Edit: Vegas wants to build through the draft, well I am willing to help with this deal. Sure a D man at 8th overall could be "better" but could also be worse and also will take a few years to get there. Dumba was 7th overall by the way |
