Interesting
Both do need a starting goalie
Winnipeg too, Vegas obviously (but they'll have choices)...
Anyone else? - jdfitz77
The Yotes do have Domingue. Maybe they're planning on just running with him as the #1 this year |

The Sabres got a 3rd from the Caps for Mike Weber a few seasons back.
Mike Weber.
So this trade could end benefitting the team Defense for years to come if Housley can help the kid find his game.
Great start as Botterils 1st trade as GM.
Appears to signal one of Bogosian or Georges likely gone.
Wait is that the Weber pick they just swapped for this kid?
OK No that pick is #89...which we still have...so that was their original pick #68. - siket71
No this is our third, still have the third from Weber trade. |

Arizona just got a boat load from Calgary for Smith - lulags
Kinda surprised Calgary is going with Smith as their goalie
He's pretty old
And I know he's been stuck on Arizona,
but it's been a bit since he's had a good season |

I would like to get the hab fans take, but it seems ek is too cheap to have a habs blogger right now - homiedclown
Kid has potential but he'll need to quit the partying and grow up. For a 3rd it might be worth it but risky with a young core. |

At least we know Ullmark has a sense of humor
Maybe he can tell Lehner some jokes to calm him the F down!
Hahaha |

Why sign Ullmark and not Lehner then? - Steele004
Because you will expose Ullmark, since you need a goalie with a contract exposed. |

Yeah...
early consensus here is that we're hoping Housley can coach him up
We still need to add at least 1 legit top4 guy |

No you don't. They have to either be under contract or be an rfa. |

I'm pretty sure both Lehner and Ullmark met the requirements with or without a contract. The only requirement is that they either have a contract for next season OR are an RFA. - HonkFortheGoose
Have the sabres extended a qualifying offer to Lehner yet? According to NHL.com the minimum exposure requirements for each club include:
One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
If they haven't extended a QO to Lehner, Ullmark is the only goalie the Sabres have that meets that minimum requirement. |

Or an RFA in 2017-18 (Lehner) go read the rules again ya nerd. |

Thank you, I was just about to post this. At the moment, Ullmark is the only goalie meeting the NHL expansion guidelines. |

Doesn't mean Lehner hasn't received his qualifying offer either though. |

He hasn't yet, not saying he won't get one, but to this date Ullmark is the only one that meets the guidelines. |
