He's 5'9 and can't even score goals in the USHL
Unlikely he ever makes the NHL
Rather take a shot at a Euro or a goalie in the late rounds

I'm ok with "reaching" for a defenseman

Talent between 12-24 is roughly the same from what I'm reading
Optimally we'd trade down & grab another pick,
but whatever
As long as we get a good player

Or if we can trade the pick for Trouba, Dumba, etc...

Make the pick and take the best player available. Teams get in trouble when they reach for needs. Then trade for some mid career Dman or younger but don't give up the eighth for it and don't reach. Darcy Regier's draft years has plenty of reaches in them that we never saw in the NHL.

But Avs did mention they have no issues drafting at 4 or moving back (every GM says that)

But Yotes at 7 could be a team they trade down with, they have the 23rd overall as well.

The guy who's ranked 18th could easily be switched with the guy ranked 10th
They're all very close

The numbers they're ranked don't matter so much bc there's a large group with roughly the same grade

They, we, everyone who is in the teens rationalizes that every year and it's not really true. They are all robots and they are the same player, there is no difference in any of them. That is what people who haven't scouted them intensely say.

It will take more than a 2nd round pick. This isn't the NFL draft where 2nd round picks are a very valuable currency because the percentage of 2nd round NHL players actually playing in the league is pretty low compared to the NFL. A prospect too probably.

I dunno, its hard to judge since there hasnt been a lot of trading down in the 1st round lately. It both cases its been moving back a few spots in the mid to late round and just picking up 3rd roudners.
