I don't think he's currently signed, is he? - jmatchett383
You're right, he's still unsigned.
Maybe...just maybe...if there really is a hockey God... |

If we go into next season with Neuvirth as our starter and Hexy starts trading away all of the young prospect goaltenders then he's made some serious mistakes |

some serious mistakes? That is short sighted. Anyone of those 4 goalies would be available in a trade I would have to think that helps now and in the future. They are in no way untouchable. They could regress, the flyers could sour on one. Way to many variables to say he made a serious mistake.
We will see how much faith he has in Stolraz or Lyon if they both end up back in the AHL.
anyway I didn't say just next season I said in a year. |

Unless we're aquiring a legitimate #1 goaltender who will play for at least the next 5 years or someone is gifting us an elite player then there is absolutely no reason to trade any of those guys. |

Eh, I could see Lyon being moved unless he overtakes Stolarz this season. Not saying he WILL be moved, but he's the most likely one. |

I agree he wasn't in the flyers plans or they would have held his rights until they flat out knew what his plans were. No argument there. - rinaldo
Do you think the Flyers aren't allowed to talk to Madsen or his agent? |

That's fair actually. Sandstorm, Hart and Stolarz are the big 3 |

Hextall also said he wants competition for spots. The more depth you have, the better. Unless you want MacD to default to playing 20+ mins a night again and to hope two kids have minimal bumps in the road next season. - bmeltzer
Hextall and Hakstol don't seem uncomfortable with it.
Personally, I'm more worried about taking away playing time from 21/22 year old defensive prospects who already have 1-3 seasons of AHL experience, than I am about MacDonald or Manning playing too much. |

Many fans' problem with MacDonald and VdV is exacerbated by the way the coach uses them. Somehow VdV became Hakstol's go-to PK player, and even though the PK was in the bottom third of the league, Hak never gave any other player a shot at VdV's role, even for a game. If your PK is not in the top ten, you must make changes. And while guys like Konecny and Ghost were getting benched for multiple games, VdV never was benched and Amac barely so. Yes, we notice these things.
Speaking of Amac, his stats are terrible and fans who watch every game know how ineffective he is. Yet he gets top minutes for the sole reason that he's a veteran. I'll never understand the logic behind playing a weak player a lot just because he's played a lot of games. |

Stolie and Lyon are both RFAs so we'll be able to see how the team values them financially soon. |

I'm not gonna lie, I am actually pretty impressed
I've seen a few things in my time on the board, but I can honestly say I never thought I'd see a multi-pager on Merrick Madsen |

Havertown skatium? My boys play for the Hawks. We have lots of good memories from there as well.
Bad news - Max's hockey shed has closed after many years.

Coaches don't play defenseman 20 minutes a game, which everyone including Hakstol knows is overplaying him, just because he's a veteran. A coach has to use the players he has available to him in ways that he thinks are the best fit for the team currently. So I think that's the logic that is flawed. MacDonald is a reliable defender who plays reasonably well defensively.
Constantly comparing a player like Vandevelde to Konecny and Gostisbehere in terms of scratches is also flawed logic. Completely different situations. The coach valued Vandevelde's stability on a team that was poor overall defensively. The PK is just not on the forwards, or one particular forward.

No, it's all good, I'm just sayin'
The dude -- I mean, how many of us have actually seen him play? I know I haven't
I get it: We debate/argue/fight about a lot of players and concepts, but a multi-pager on a dude the majority of us have never seen stop a puck is, indeed, impressive
