Many fans' problem with MacDonald and VdV is exacerbated by the way the coach uses them. Somehow VdV became Hakstol's go-to PK player, and even though the PK was in the bottom third of the league, Hak never gave any other player a shot at VdV's role, even for a game. If your PK is not in the top ten, you must make changes. And while guys like Konecny and Ghost were getting benched for multiple games, VdV never was benched and Amac barely so. Yes, we notice these things.

Speaking of Amac, his stats are terrible and fans who watch every game know how ineffective he is. Yet he gets top minutes for the sole reason that he's a veteran. I'll never understand the logic behind playing a weak player a lot just because he's played a lot of games.

Not to be a stickler, but VDV was healthy scratched for one game.

Vegas has until tomorrow to jump free agency. We can sign him at anytime. At this point I don't think flyers can sign him until the expansion draft is final. Vegas had 72 hours of exclusivity.

I'll admit that I'm not a Jordan Weal guy. It took him a little bit to get going but he showed he can be somewhat effective. With this said, I'm not worried about the impact it might leave on the team to lose Weal, Cousins or Laughton. I think all three have had sometime in the sun where we saw some promise but all have drafted off. I think Weal has the best chance to prove me wrong offensively but I question where he fits on this team long term.

Have any of you scout-centric people seen this Spencer Foo kid? Is there any reason to care whether or not he picks the Flyers -- as in, could he crack that roster this fall and help them?
- AllInForFlyers

I live right by Union so I saw him a few times this year, twice on the ice, twice at center street pub. Really good hands, and pretty quick, but strikes me as more of an Akeson (perenial art ross contender) than an impact player, but definitely worth taking a shot at. Don't think he's NHL ready at the moment, but would be a really nice add for LHV. Also the kid can put back Millers like a champ, so I can get behind that.

Yeah, and at that point, may as well just let him play all 82 games.

It honestly wouldn't shock me even a tiny bit of Hakstol whispered sweet nothings in Hextall's ear and within that hour, Vandevelde is signed once again.

My theory is Hakstol scratched him for #82 just so we couldn't female dog about him playing every single game, I honestly found it hilarious when that happened.

I'm not a believer in Weal either. He and Vecchione have a lot to prove to me before I'd hand them a roster spot.

I still think Laughton can develop into a hell of a bottom 6 player for this team. I have been a fan since he was drafted and never imagined he'd have this much trouble transitioning. This might be one of those times where he could have used some fairy dust instead of jumping so quickly into the show. I think maybe injuries took some bite out of his game. That said... this has to be his season.

Right now it might be a contract situation. The Flyers only have 50. Not sure where they stand right now.

So right now they are sleeping in separate beds because Hextall didn't protect their adopted son Bellemare?

I think with the Cousin trade and the exp draft pick they have 48, could theoretically work, but he may not be worth the slot.

You know what? When we re-signed Bellemare, I was floored. I thought we could get a decent draft pick for Streit and just let every UFA outside of Mason walk. Instead we brought in Filppula (who might as well have the number zone and the name flop stitched to the back of his jersey) and resigned a fourth line center and a back up goalie. I wanted the cap space.

I was within the belief we could give fourth line duties and PK time, while replacing Neuvirth with Stolarz, Morin replacing Schultz and Hagg replacing Del Zotto. Only half of this might happen.

I think we should have lived and died with some youth on this roster heading into the 17-18 season.

Another reach of an argument. We're not talking about Bellemare here. We're talking about Vandevelde. One doesn't have anything to do with the other.

Feel free to switch channels to my other conversation where I brought up that I'm not happy that we resigned some of our UFAs.

After watching the Leafs this season I am really anxious to get the kids in the lineup. I realize D and goalies are different than dropping 5 or 6 young forwards into the lineup but man... c'mon, let's go!

As always, I admire guys who are not extremely high picks who are also undersized who show enough to make it to the NHL and get games in, but at the end of it, I'm with you -- it's not that I don't want him back or don't respect him as a player, but I, too, truly question if he isn't surplus to requirements if the Flyers truly look to solidify the left side using all avenues available to them

There is every indication that is what is going to continue to happen. Last season they added two 19 year old players to the lineup.

Would be exciting times. It will be a fun time watching this team be fun again, I think we are truly heading that way. Its been a long time in purgatory.
