I think that losing Bogo would come back to bite us. Him under Housley could be a helllluva turn around player. He showed signs of it in stretches over the last two years but couldn't keep it.
Not saying they aren't talented but some of those Nashville defensemen played a lot better than what they were supposed to be and that is from coaching and system. - JVince11
he couldnt keep healthy.. and regardless of if he improves he isn't helping us in the press box |

That's another good point...
Where does Housley see Sam?
All this stuff is still to be determined - jdfitz77
We have Eichel and ROR at 1C and 2C. If you bury Sam as a 3C he doesn't see enough minutes on the ice to have his skills effective. His skills need to be on the ice for top 6 minutes. If Eichel and ROR are better centers (they are) then he needs to stay on the wing. This is not even debatable to me. It's factly fact Asian facts. |

Saw some chatter about Buffalo ending up with Marc Methot.
It was even as far to say that he is a top pairing guy to go with Risto. I think that was just someone's opinion. I don't know a ton about Methot but I remember their fans were very down on him this past year. - JVince11
Well if he can pair with Karlsson...
I'd prefer someone younger, & with a higher ceiling, but Methot is a solid top4 defenseman |

On pace for, and actually doing it, are 2 different things
That would be like saying Stafford is a 40 goal scorer bc the 1 year he had 30g in 60ish games - jdfitz77
he had like 15 of those 30 goals in 5 games too |

I love it if they can trade Girgs+ to get Eberle. - Pierceme69
It really shows me something that when EDM is a dead last team in the NHL that Eberle looks great in the stats but when on a playoff team and has a center of McDavid or Draistail that he regresses.
How the hell is that even possible?!?!?! Work ethic?
I'd take a trade of a 3rd line player for a top 6 winger with 5 20+ goal seasons every day of hte week regardless tho. |

He may well keep him at wing I'm guessing he'd like to see him more at Center before making that decision,
But it is possible he us his mind made up already I guess
I'm not gonna read too much into his statements yet
He's got A LOT of self scouting to do on our players still - jdfitz77
Very true.
I wouldn't mind Sam at center, but I saw very little from him there when Eichel was out |

I feel that JB and Housley want to build their own guys instead of breaking other guys habits. it is what worked for Housley in NSH.
I see Risto, McCabe, Guhle, Antipin, Beaulieu, +1 getting a ton of minutes in the future. |

Two years ago he had an injury that really derailed his season for the most part. Not sure what happened last year. |

How did Pitt get Kessel icetime when he was on the 3rd line?
All 3 lines roll fairly evenly,
and Sam would continue to get PP1 icetime
And if we are down 1 late, Sam can always be shifted back to wing on 1 of the top2 lines
Here's the Pitt stats from 15-16 playoffs when their 3rd line was
Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel

Phil had the 2nd most icetime |

Call me crazy but I think that guys like Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, and Y. Webber played above their levels in NSH due to Housley's coaching and system.
Tire fire or not... I want to see what Bogosian does in his system before casting him out. He has the skill set and size. |

This. No reason why you can't build your team to have 3 strong scoring lines and then a 4th "shut down" type line.
I bet if you were go to back and look at Chicago's success in the playoffs the years they won the cup, they got a good amount of "secondary" scoring from guys on the 3rd line. Guys like Shaw and Bickell pretty much made their $$ off of those goals during the playoffs.

We likely can't get rid of him right now if we wanted to
Hopefully Housley can help get his confidence up
That should improve his decision making quite a bit |

I mean that is a fine point it is. They did roll 3 lines. But their 3 lines were a lot more evenly talented then our 3 lines would be. We don't have a Crosby and Malkin to elevate the others around them that much more.
Kane - Eichel - ??
?? - ROR - Okposo
Zemgus - Sam - Moulson
Maybe sub in Bailey, Baptiste, Carrier, Larsson, Ennis, CJ Smith, Foligno and it is no where near what they have on those 3 lines. |

Maybe that's what they want in the future but for the next few years Methot would be a decent option. My top option in trade with Vegas would be Dumba. I know he plays the right side but if we can find a way to get rid of BADgosian and get one of McCabe or Beauleu to step up our D could look like...
McCabe Risto
Beauileu Dumba
Falk/Gorges Antipin
or with Methot
Methot Risto
McCabe Antipin
Beauileu Postma (Who I really want in FA) |

if I can move him and his $5M per year hit for the next 3 years right now, I'm doing it. I've seen all I need to of him. And I was probably one of the most patient about casting him off in comparison to many other fans.
He can't stay healthy. Nothing Housley does is going to change that. He's just one of those guys that's guaranteed to miss time. It would be fine if it didn't mean he needed 20+ games to figure out to play at game speed again. But he's not. It takes him FOREVER to settle back in and by the time he does that, he's due for another injury.
