So, you would have rather had him protect carrier, expose Ennis and thus lose Ullmark??

No, my deal idea is:

Moulson
Carrier
Peterson's rights
2017 WSH 3rd
2018 Sabres 3d

For

Lee Stempniak or equal

True on Beaulieu. Starting the year with Moulson, Bogo and Gorges on opening night means no playoffs imo. It's the same way I felt about Ellis. If Ellis is on your opening night roster, you're not a playoff team. If 2 out of the 3 I mentioned start the year, we're not a playoff team

As would most on here, I'd love us to make a splash...but I'm not expecting anything.

Most teams seem to have better/more assets to move to attain the players we would be after. (i.e. MIN able to move Tuch vs BUF moving Ennis).

Friedman mentioned Kane trade talks cooling...which indicated 89 is right, he wants to stay. I happen to think that's a good thing. I think next year is when we start to really compete. We need to fix the left side of the D and secure another top 6 wing (Kane, Sam, Okposo).

I'm in the sit back and wait approach to see what happens after the dust settles as far as making deals, now if the deal is there that's great. One thing about the Pens when Botterill was there, they don't panic.

Exactly. I assume GMJB is playing the long game anyway. Not too long, but still.

Last night on the NHL network, the guys were picking there expansion players and all of them picked Ullmark in there draft, now it was a mock but all of them picked him. I like Carrier but we need Ullmark.

Funny, but when I thought about what I would be willing to give Kane, 5 years $30 million was exactly the number I came up with.

Going to be long stages of talks if they both agree on him staying as far as contracts go.

With everything we know about Vegas right now I feel we could've easily protected Carrier and left Ennis unprotected. I don't think they would've taken Ullmark given their GMs comments. Doing so likely would've forced them to take one of our bigger contracts now we hand Carrier on a silver platter to them. Kind of aggravates me.
- bluengold12

Don't assume this. I'm guessing the 2 gm's talked and he had to expose Carrier to avoid losing Ullmark. The front office is pretty tight-lipped these days (we knew nothing about the "Booya" trade til it happened. For all we know we may have a trade in place. Dreaming, but.....

I don't think we need to temper crap! This is the easiest league in sports to make the playoffs! It's got the most parity. I guarantee you if we don't make the playoffs this year Eichel will likely flip his lid and probably want to get the F out. Can't say I blame him when he sees other pathetic franchises like Edmonton and Toronto become perennial playoff contenders. I think we still need to make a few moves but playoffs are very possible. Hopefully Botteril shows some moxie and makes the necessary moves.

First off I would never do this deal. Reinhart requires someone like Hanifin. Second of all that's what people are saying about Ullmark but if I was Botterill I would've called Vegas's bluff. They will not select a lot of goalies. GM said it himself. Focus is on D and wingers.

You would draw the line 1 year less and only $250K per? Why? 5 years only takes him to 32.

Yes. I don't think Ullmark is that good and there are better goalies out there for Vegas to take. Fleury, Rantaa, Grubby.

If I'm the Sabres I make a call on Grubby and Rantaa. Not sure what the cost will be but they're more sound that Lehner, and I am a Lehner advocate.
