I don't get the hate. Of goalies who appeared in at least 41 games, he finished 7th in the league in sv%. And did so behind an absolutely god awful defense. How does he not deserve $4 million?

The argument against him seems to be his high danger save percentage and his contest winner impression in the shootout. But I don't know, the overall save percentage was pretty solid and the d was a tire fire so I wouldn't mind him as the #1 this year

High danger areas, the NHL needs to fix that, you know, that area where one goal counts for 3. It absolutely destroyed us last year. Nilsson only let in the goals that counted for one, idk why he wasn't the starter.

His basic overall stats aren't any better. So I don't understand. He won 10 more games, but also had 7 more starts. His GAA was a 2.67 and Lehner's was a 2.68. Their sv% is only off by .02 as well.

i think the defence will be better, doesnt necessarily mean the same for the goalie. better as in more productive but what about the trade off. they're gunna take more risks. i assume adv stats guy JB wont let his top D-man get shelled again. What happens when ristolainen isnt camped in the slot for 20 mins?

It's not that Doughty doesn't deserve it, but this isn't a trophy for "deserves it" it should go to the best defenseman every year. And more often than not that has been Karlsson
