I'd take Mrazek over Hosek, and Dumba over Tuch, probably Poirier or Shinkaruk over Engelland
- chilliard77

There was no way Engelland wasn't coming back here

So why not just wait a week and sign him and get a decent prospect too?

edit: I know it's probably chalked up to wanting to put on a show, or make him an "original Knight" but seems foolish to leave a good prospect on the table for that

curious why it is you dont but yes you're right thats generally how i see it. simplest form as the underlying numbers for goaltenders is just a different animal altogether and its a position i admit im not overly familiar with.

For one, I don't have an Archer avatar, so I'm less biased towards a stat based on Danger Zones than some other might be.

For two (and the real reason), I don't know a lot about the stat, but from what I gather, danger is determined based on where the shot was taken from on the ice.

I think there are far too many variables in hockey to equate shots based on the area of the ice from which it came. I think we all agree that not all shots taken from the same area on the ice are created equal.

In short, I question how well we can quantify the quality of a shot. Now, I don't think the stat has no value at all, I just question whether it should be used to make the type of generalizations that get brought up in here sometimes.

For three, I haven't seen HDSV% stats for the 2016-17 season anywhere. I tried Googling, but nothing came up. So I also don't know how Lehner did in this stat in his first healthy season as a Sabre.

3 picks in the 1st round this year and they failed ?
- SABRES 89

Yes, 100%

Only got 1 extra 1sts and passed on so many good players
They could've picked a playoff team

And still had so many leftover defensemen that they still could've gotten the two 1sts and a handful of 2nds & 3rds

Yeah, one year $1M deal to come home for a year. When he would've been lucky to be signed anywhere else.

It's good PR for them, and that's probably why they made the decision.

This. But his HDSV% wasn't great, but again when it's a 2-0 with Gorges or Bogo jerking off in the corner you're going to let some goals in.

Getting Engellund NOW did absolutely nothing to help build their team

And "God" was another dumb pick

32 year old goalie < Brian Rust

Not that Fleury is bad...
but they could've taken a younger goalie (Mrazek, Grubauer) and gotten a young Rust as well

No, but what's that matter?

Of course they can still trade Neal or whoever
But that doe st mean there weren't a bunch of picks where they blew it

There's nothing they could really do just prospects and those will not be ready
We'll see what happens but I see this going the Phoenix coyotes 2.0

Hell maybe they will trade up for the second overall pick our the first this year

Yeah. I tried them. Is that site coming back? I am curious to look at the stat for Lehner as compared to the rest of the league.

There was talk of them having up to 6 1st rounders. Unfortunately for them. Not everybody was as stupid as garth snow. Still, they have a ton of dmen and a lot of teams need dmen. Don't be surprised if buffalo grabs one of them. Gmtm won't go big but - Theodore and Neil for kane, faeshing and a 2nd?

Most of the defensemen they picked are 4/5guys
They could've done so much better

For example...

Dumba could've gotten them better than Tuch & Haula, right?

Shlemko over Brendan Dillon? That's just stupid

It's supposed to for the start of the year, a revamp I guess. God knows it could use it the site was slow as poop.

So you would rather have a team that competes for 8th place for the next 5 years, rather than suck for 2-3 years, and potentially contend for a cup? You sound like the Sabres fans who cried about tanking to get Eichel.

McPhee knows exactly what he's doing. He learned from his mistakes in Washington, and knows how to build a team that can win a Cup, instead of flailing out in the first round every year. He also knows you can't do that with a bunch of #4 dmen, and #3 centers.

I would love to be a fan of Vegas! It's going to be so much fun being involved in almost every rumor and transaction in the next couple days leading to the draft. Plus, they have multiple 1st round picks, so they get to track their progress. There is more to hockey then just winning and losing. It's supposed to be entertaining and fun; so enjoy all of it!

You also have to remember that McPhee has to work with these guys. If they're offering a bunch to stay away from a certain player or players, you're not going to just say no and piss off 1/3 of the GMs. There will also be more trades, they will get more picks and players, not just prospects, but guys who can actually play. They picked 14 defensemen and 10 of them are everyday NHLers. They're not going to keep all of them.

As of now... they really blew it

They could've put together a team that would have at least challenged for a playoff spot next year

And they've only gotten two extra 1st round picks

There's gonna have to be A LOT still to come to them to change my mind

Epic failure (so far) imo

- jdfitz77

No way they would make the playoffs picking BPAs....who would their top pair D be? No 1 center? They would have a deep team of capable players but zero in the way of game breakers.
