I'd be willing to bet that we have a trade in place by the EOD Thursday for a Dman either from Vegas (most likely) or Minnesota (Dumba) - lulags
whats the wager?
i'm assuming EOd is end of day... meaning today

Its a 6th round pick.... its security.
How many 6th rounders hit it big??? Lol. We kept Ullmark a goalie who we badly need because we are bare thin at the position and lost a bottom 6 winger who we have 16 others of. - JVince11
...Ullmark was a 6th round pick

Pass. Reinhart for a top 2, or move on. - TheSabresTaco
That I can understand. We also did struggle heavily to score goals. |

This. Exactly this.
Losing a winger at this stage is better for us than losing a goalie that's about to make the jump to the NHL as a full time backup and have spent how many years developing.
There were aspects of Carrier's game that I liked, but I'm not upset about losing him. I would have been more upset losing Ullmark.
Honestly, I think if Botterill had been the GM for more than just a few weeks, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him actually leave Lehner out there and call McPhee's bluff. I doubt he would have been taken, based on the fact that he had an agreement in place to take Fleury already that was widely known even to us fans. - HonkFortheGoose
I am more surprised GMJB left the entire "core" protected
girgens, ennis, larsson, foligno
my biggest take on that, is he will be patient like he said with the kids (bailey, nylander, baptiste, fasching) and probably leave most if not all in rochester to start the season |

Carrier had already been passed over on the organizational depth chart by
Bailey
Baptiste
Nylander
Fasching
Maybe even Smith and Olofsson... Hagel? All could replace him. - JVince11

- mattmoulson
yes, and it's one that you may actually have hit on, so you probably want to protect that asset as it is a bit more rare.
No guarantee the next one works out. Might as well try and keep the known value in this case. |

so, what you're saying is you're George McPhee? Because he's probably the only person who knows that with 100% certainty.
Move along troll. - HonkFortheGoose
Troll this. No taco sabre also knows with 100% certainty.
He clearly didn't care which one he took, is that not obvious. wow that 6th rd pick really swayed him I bet. |

yes, because our transition game is terrible and that starts with having a poor defense.
Bringing in some puck movers back there should help both defensively and offensively. |

So McPhee and Botterill had 0 conversations, and Botterill was like, yo George, here's a 6th, don't touch a goalie!

There are too many teams looking for D help now. If we don't strike today we will miss the boat. I meant to say EOD tomorrow. thought it was Wednesday.

I'm not suprised by Gigens and Foligno. Girgs was productive before Byslma. And Foligno is coming off probably his best full year and finally looks to have put it all together.
Ennis is a bit surprising. Larsson is a bit odd in the way that if you were planning on protecting Girgensons, then Larsson is expendable. I think it's pretty obvious that at the end of the day, there's really only room for 1 of them here. If I had to choose, it would be Girgensons that I'd keep. He's a bit younger, faster, and to me has more offensive upside than Larsson. |

Not only are they different players (other than Fasching), but Carrier was the only one to stick.
The proof's in the roster transactions. He's a useful player for the role he plays. He's not a god. And he's better than Nicky D |

I'd be shocked if their convo lasted longer than 5 minutes. I'm sure that a depth goalie and a bottom 6 guy were at the low end of fruit that McPhee wanted to spend time on.
McPhee: Hey Botteril, I think we like Ullmark.
Botteril: Could I persuade you not to take him if I give you a 6th w/ Carrier?
McPhee: Yea, I can get some other guy like Berube in a bigger deal.
Botteril: Cheerio
(Yea. I think Botteril is a smartass) |

You might be right with the bolded.
And somehow, the italicized did sway him.
Can't have it both ways. Either McPhee really didn't care which one he took, so the 6th rounder did sway him, or he wanted Ullmark, and the 6th rounder swayed him. So what is your point, and how do you feel about Claude Giroux's stats and quality of play declining at such a rapid rate while paying him 9 mil a year to be the best chirper in the league? |

decent pk fixture on the 4th line
