I'd rather just sign a guy like Del Zotto and not give up assets. Still be a stop gap. Maybe a 3 year deal.
Stone or Daley are UFAs as well. could be cheaper. - JVince11
True. I wouldnt really want to give up assets unless they take back a contract. I had targeted Daley or Del zotto a while back but I just dont know if they are upgrading anything. I do think Methot would be an upgrade tho and Emelin to an extent too.
That's the disconnect. I don't believe a 6th rd pick would have swayed them to stay away from Ullmark is all; if they really liked him. So they got a low rd pick
for taking a guy they were comfortable taking anyway. - rinaldo
Good gravy, I think we're all saying the same thing for the most part. Given the pieces the Sabres exposed, McPhee would have taken Ullmark. Until Buff said, please don't take him. McPhee said it's going to cost you Carrier and a 6th, Buff said deal.
Rinaldo is right in saying that McPhee wasn't foaming at the mouth to get Ullmark, merely he preferred him over the pile of poop that was exposed. Rinaldo is wrong indicating that we truly believed that Ullmark was the one player that McPhee wanted.
Yes, fans of teams over value their players...guilty as charged. But nobody valued Ullmark to the level that's being portrayed. Buff just wanted to keep him because the cupboard is BARE at goalie. Cal ain't signing and Ullmark is a cheap back up option.

Still need to get rid of one of the other defensemen to bring another in.
Maybe a package deal with Vegas to unload a contract (Bogo would be my best guess), to then sign or obtain a defenseman. - thatsapickle
i have no clue.. but after the expansion draft where does Vegas sit against the cap.. do they have a need to add celery? if so i would be offering Bogo and moulson to see what happens for a d man.. through in a 2nd or two to help move the deal along
One of the things I liked about the GMTM era was the leaks...So far, seems like GMJB is close lipped (not a bad thing for business, but annoying for fans)
VGK must have something going on somewhere..because those picks, on the surface were terrible, even with the picks/prospects. I fear we don't have enough in the cupboard at this time to make a large improvement on the back end.
I like EK9 and his production. Per 89, seems like he wants to stay..which I am thankful for. He seems to be more valuable to us than he is likely to others. With EK9, 5 of top 6 are set for quite a while...
9-15-23
21-90-?
I'd like to make a move for Eberle, if it cost a girgensons/foligno/larsson type (plus a something small). That would give us a darn good top 6.
I am not high on Nylander at all. Doesnt pass my eye test, however I acknowledge if my eyes knew anything, I wouldnt be posting on this board

Nylander is young like super young gotta give him time
Eberle at a reasonable cost would be fine with me if they could ship out Ennis
Marc Andre Fleury is the Golden Knights' Roger Crozier. Very good goalie that fell to an expansion team, Crozier via trade, and will have to stand on his head the first year or two.
Kane - Eichel - Eberle... I odn't know how I feel about that together.
Kane and Eichel are both passable defensive players but not "great" right now. Eberle is all offense. ROR and Okposo are much better defensive players and Sam is mostly all offense. I can see it.

For the love of god yes.
Personal disdain for the trade, and his inconsistencies aside, I would like to keep him, I just don't think it will happen.
I think Pegula (one of them) has already made their mind up about him - sbroads24
If he goes into the season with out a new contract and is still a Sabre my head is going to hurt from all of the hot takes about what to do with him.
I'd like to keep him as well.
The only way I see that as a win for Buffalo is if they decided they're going to trade him at the deadline and he is having a monster year. The only issue with that is if they are in or right at a playoff position moving him is going to hurt
