So where is this great team everyone said Vegas was going to get?
So far they have nothing but a pile of dog poop and some draft picks. |

Sheng, any truth to the rumor that Vegas will be sending #6 overall to NJ in exchange for not having to take any NJ exposed players? - smellmyfinger
Am I misreading this? Suggesting that Vegas is sending their #6 overall to New Jersey and in exchange Vegas won't pick any exposed players?
So To NJD: #6 to go with their #1
To VGK: Sweet (frank) all. Nothing. No draft pick. No expansion pick. Nothing.
edit: nm. i'm an idiot. you got me. |

What are you talking about they have a three time Stanley cup champion goalie. Plus no Devils on their roster. Teams rolling! |

We've already discussed this, the Devils will be retaining all of their players. |

I think instead of building the most competitive team possible right away -- and they could've built a decent one based on what was available -- they've chosen to make more upside, "long game" moves. Which is exactly what they should do, I think. It should pay off in long run, but it will also be ugly right now. |

What doesn't add up? Gusev already said he's taking a "wait and see approach" on if/when to come over. Bolts lose his rights in 2 years. And he will want some form of a guaranteed spot (which the Bolts can't/won't offer) to leave his prime KHL spot. If you were going to lose a prospect he's the one to lose.
Garrison was always getting moved, either exp draft or trade. Bolts wanted to upgrade top 4 and his spot was the one to upgrade. This isn't so much about shedding salary as it is upgrading a spot on D.
Important to remember that every team has to lose somebody. The better teams have more to lose b/c they have more talent. So you lose the player you want to jettison anyways, and in doing so move a prospect who may or may not come over and even if he does come over for Vegas it was no sure thing he was coming over for Tampa. It's better than losing Dotchin or KK - uf1910
SKA is also loosing kovy and shipa, so they have money to spend and will probably do all they can to keep Gusev. He is young and has the chance to be set for life financially. Small chance we can sign him when we still have his rights.
What doesnt make sense is that McPhee doesnt know this and leaves better assets on the table while doing TBL a favor in taking Garrisson.

Oh I'm sure McPhee knows all the info he needs and weather or not the player wants to come to North America. You don't have info he isn't going to have. |

Kind of surprising in a city where they are going to have to sell the sport to newbies. You'd think they'd want to at least be somewhat competitive. They could have had a very tough D and goalies to beat. |

Grabo isnt for sure is it? I would of thought Kuli who has another year right? Grab is a UFA after this year. |

It's a good plan to build the team to be legit competitive in 5 years. Even if they built the best team possible they were only fringe playoff contender. They can lose their first year or two and be fine. Sell the excitement of having team.
Farther out need to have their own players to compete with. Also taking best available makes it tough to build a style of play where the guys fit together. |
|
|
|
Also this will absolutely happen again when they go to 32 teams. If they find another group willing to pay 500 million then we will see the same rules. If it's only 250 million then the new team gets to pick from a crap list. |

I thought he had a bunch of concussions and is unlikely to play again. |
