Not.. at the same time.. PIT has a 9.5, 8.7, 6.8, and 7.25M contracts on the books and won back to back. (I didn't realize how front loaded Crosby/Kessel deals were in actual salary).

Salary cap is only going to go up. RNH will have to be dealt. Sekera, Klefbom, Larsson, and Russel all making 4-5.5M for 4+ years. Tough.

Adding salary.

14m per is pure speculation at this point. It would completely bust the teams chanves of remaining competitive for the next decade. 9-11m per range is realistic if you want to keep the team competitive.

Ovie signed his mega deal in 08 which represented about 17% of the teams cap that year. Assuming cap goes up another 3% next season to $77M if McDavid signs $14M per that would be about 18% of teams cap. Washington made it work.

That's been the year long argument on this board.

I think if you're trading him, it's one of these scenarios

A) Other team overpays, even if we add. (Top 2 D)
B) He's a real problem off the ice/in locker room
C) He told his agent there's no chance of him signing in Buffalo

Recent rumors suggest there has been no outgoing calls coming from Bots to teams looking to trade Kane. Grain of salt.

I think, if those rumors are true, Kane isn't as big of an off ice issue as we think and he's interested in some level of re signing here.

3 years 6 mil is what I hope this team shoots for. Fortunately, his character and ability to stay healthy will decrease his market value. By fortunate, I mean it will help us sign him to something reasonable.
