If they do make a trade, I only want it to be to jump back into the first round because someone they liked fell further than they expected. They looked at a lot of guys thinking theyd be in the 13 range. Part of the "weak draft" is just not a lot of consensus, so I expect there will be some guys that go later than expected

I could see Simmonds moving for maybe a pair of the 1st's from Vegas. Not the 6th, but maybe the Jets and Isles pick. I don't know how to feel about it though.

Not enough, need a good prospect as well. Maybe next years 1st as well.
Consistant 30 goal scorers are not that readily available.

if Vegas offers you #6 and #13, you take it and Run!!!!! this is no knock on Patrick!!! but five years from now you'd look back and laugh. If you come away with either Glass or Vilardi and Valimaki or Lillgren, it would huge score
- Ross77

If that's all they offer that would be an easy pass for Hextall.

I compare it to Lecavalier vs. Legwand. Vinny was the consensus at the start of the year, and Legwand was a guy who was good but exploded his draft year.
- jmatchett383

That's a good compare too.

I just think Patrick, even after the injuries, is our future top center. There is something to a guy being the number one player up until basically the last week before the draft.

Kinda like the Konecny deal? Maybe a later (25+) pick for 2 2nds or something?

TOR Would be a perfect fit for Simmonds.

What's the ask from Philly?

- paulozz

Simmonds and the #2 for Mattews.

Same. Give me the guy who's been getting the accolades since he was 15 over the guy who's been getting them for 4 months.

Christmas Day, NHL Draft, July 1st, NHL schedule release, reading Bill's blog first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee.

All things I look forward too, no matter how old I keep getting.

Same here, and we have plenty of picks to do so (hopefully).

He kind of compared hischer to the rise of Nino Niederreiter.
- J35Bacher

I think the only valid similarity between the two is that they're both Swiss.

There is basically nowhere for Mason to go

Winnipeg would take him in a heart beat!! Pavlec is not being re-signed and Hutch is going to be the back up on the farm

I was thinking the same thing once Calgary traded for Smith. With as many goalies available, probably a 2 year deal, I really don't want to speculate on the money.

doesn't really seem like something Hexy would do...
- bulet13

REALLY? That's the deal that Jake got after his BEST YEAR EVER. Simmer is just a few years older then Jake in his contract year. He can lock him down next summer. If Simmer nudges 40 this year, watch the extensions fly!

Please, someone explain to me why it's imperative that we trade our best forward ASAP. We may have to give him a raise in 2 years? Okay, then (frank)ing give him the raise. Trade Schenn if you have to.
- jmatchett383

It not a slight on Simmer, but the flyers should be analyzing when they can cash in many of there assets for the highest return. I love Simmer and would hate to see him traded but if they got a haul for him that could solidify the future of the franchise you have to make that move. We aren't there yet, but were getting much closer to seeing if Hexy version of the Dean Lombardi plan is gonna work.

No need to trade for any goalie of any age. We need to find out what stolie has and potentially maximize his trade value, or retain him as a backup to potential future #1's carter hart/felix sandstrom. If stolie struggles, alex lyon could also be given a shot with the same sort of maximize value/retain as backup mentality. Bottom line is that we have plenty of options in goal that NEED to be fully evaluated.

because Jake isn't a power forward and was younger at the end of the contract and no-one who scores 55 points a season gets $9.5 million per year. don't be moronic

Yeah, I guess LA should have traded Justin Williams to infuse more youth into their system prior 2012. No way having a veteran leader on a team of young guys ever works out.
