Blues took on the player with the higher cap hit. How is it a cap dump for them? - MJL
So they don't have to pay someone they don't want almost 5 million dollars |

My post though. It makes zero sense to have 2 overpaid 3C types who are not playing center. |

Then why protect Laughton. The 1st rounders I get, but the Lehtera thing is also a hang up to me. He makes $4.7 mil for 2 years. He is not close to a need. Why do we have both Flip and Lehtera making almost $10 mil? That's crazy. I really want to see where this is going. - Mononoke
Both Lehtera and Filppula can play the Wing if need be. Makes one wonder whether Laughton and Vecchione are going to have a legit shot to make the team. I'm thinking some kind of dominoes but it's not as if the deal cleared significant cap space.

Pretty cool for the blackhawks to bring out Kane and Toews. Too bad they are wet paper bags for personality |

I think Schenn's value was pretty low. They should have moved him earlier. Is Schenn worth $5M per year? sure. But is he worth much more than that? Probably not. Hard to deal guys for a big return when they don't have much surplus value. Hexy had to take Lehtera just to maximize the value on the return. - PhillySportsGuy

We have a ton of wings already too. We're paying 2 centers $10 mil (one signed for 2 years) to play wing and 4C in the bottom 6? That makes zero sense unless 1 goes. Even if we ship out Read or someone for $$ reasons, there was a glut already with him. Something more has to be going on. |

Can he get above Giroux, Couturier, Filppula and Patrick as a center? - Feanor
He thinks the game fairly well -- again, he played with Tarasenko and he helped him to the seasons he's had the last few years
Like T'hawk said, if you put him with skill, he can do some things
I never count on prospects to make the big club, so I don't count on Patrick for next season, but to me, it depends on what you wanna do with Couturier.
Do you want Couturier to continue to develop as a No. 2 center and hopefully put up more points? Then no, Lehtera doesn't slot in there because you are trying to get everything you can out of Couturier
If you tell me I want a line where the wingers are gonna get looks because I want more consistent offense next season, then yeah, I'd slot Lehtera where Couturier is |

The Lehtera thing is weird though. 2 years yet at a pretty big cap hit for a 4th line C. Wtf. |

This is a good trade. If we're under the cap anyways who cares. (frank)ing 2 firsts for schenn?! A guy who we can't get to fit anywhere but on the pp - Just5
Usually agree with you. I don't here. While Schenn is very streaky trading guys who score goals for guys who don't isn't a great idea.
How often do picks at the end of the first round hit? 30%?
Big hole on the PP now. The second PP unit was a poopshow all last season. |

That and the fact that Lehtera hasn't played wing in the NHL

The Flyers just drafted the 2nd best amateur player.
I'm quite sure he can do whatever the (frank) Brayden Schenn did on the power play. |

They dumped a player on us that has a way overvalued cap number. It's a dump regardless of what went back their way
The flyers pp is going to look different next year in all likelihood with Mullen gone. I think that was a big factor in this |

No. You don't spend $10 million on 2 bottom 6 players. We should already have, even minus Schenn:
Lindblom-Giroux-Simmonds
Konecny-Coots-Voracek
Flip-Patrick-Weal
Raffl can also play 3rd line. They signed Weise to be a 3rd line guy too. They already had a glut of skilled bottom 6 players. |
