He thinks the game fairly well -- again, he played with Tarasenko and he helped him to the seasons he's had the last few years

Like T'hawk said, if you put him with skill, he can do some things

I never count on prospects to make the big club, so I don't count on Patrick for next season, but to me, it depends on what you wanna do with Couturier.

Do you want Couturier to continue to develop as a No. 2 center and hopefully put up more points? Then no, Lehtera doesn't slot in there because you are trying to get everything you can out of Couturier

If you tell me I want a line where the wingers are gonna get looks because I want more consistent offense next season, then yeah, I'd slot Lehtera where Couturier is

- AllInForFlyers

I don't see any chance of Lehtera taking over Couturier's slot. Couturier will continue to be the Flyers 2nd line center.

The Lehtera thing is weird though. 2 years yet at a pretty big cap hit for a 4th line C. Wtf.
- flyer_nutter

More like a 3rd line center.

Lehtera isn't close to Couturier at 5 on 5 scoring.

Maybe they're moving Coots? Idk. I can't make sense of taking him back when you've got so many kids fighting for those spots.

My post though. It makes zero sense to have 2 overpaid 3C types who are not playing center.
- Mononoke

Agreed. It's why I never wanted Filppula in the first place.

Lehtera's scoring over the last 3 years at even strength mirrors Schenn's for the most part. Lehtera is probably the better possession guy as well.

Is Lehtera worth $4.7M? No, but I do think he could be useful.

No. You don't spend $10 million on 2 bottom 6 players. We should already have, even minus Schenn:

Lindblom-Giroux-Simmonds
Konecny-Coots-Voracek
Flip-Patrick-Weal

Raffl can also play 3rd line. They signed Weise to be a 3rd line guy too. They already had a glut of skilled bottom 6 players.

- Mononoke

It's not ideal, but it is what it is. Just because it's not economically efficient doesn't mean it won't work on the ice. And I think we agree that it's not economically efficient.

I'm hoping there is another move to dump a contract for a pick or something, but there may not be.

Thrilled with Patrick, and wasn't really a fan of Schenn.

However... Getting tired of the dead weight.

Fil, Read, Weise, Mac and now this guy. Thats 18million plus no? Ass ugly.

To STL: Schenn

To PHI: 27th OA, conditional 1st (top 10 protected, can defer to 2019 for an additional 3rd), Lehtera

Giroux - coots - Patrick

Doesn't matter those are our centers. Filp Laughton lehtera whomever can be 4th line center but top 3 are locked in.

There has to be something coming where maybe even two guys get moved out -- they didn't protect Laughton to not give him a real shot, and you're not paying Lehtera that kind of money on the fourth line

Somebody's going and it's probably for a winger who can score

Interesting. We'll miss Schenn on the pp, but he's crap at ES.

Coots is your 2nd or 3rd line center in this lineup. I don't know why that would change.

They dumped a player on us that has a way overvalued cap number. It's a dump regardless of what went back their way

The flyers pp is going to look different next year in all likelihood with Mullen gone. I think that was a big factor in this

- Just5

I can see that if you look at Lehtera coming back just for cap purposes. Obviously the picks are the real value in the deal.

Expensive throw in. Blues fans couldn't stand the guy.
- PLindbergh31

gotta think the Blues wouldn't pay the price of 2 first rounders without the Flyers taking back a crap contract. my initial feelings are that they took a steo back short term but this continues with hextall's building thru the draft. I actually liked Schenn but I also saw his short comings 5 on 5.

From what Bill is saying Frost can fly. excellent skater. obviously won't play right away but they have Patrick for that. I know you're gonna complain cause well, its what you do but i really love what hextall is doing

Or a goalie.
Or a defenseman.
Or freeing cap space to sign Alzner.

Guys, relax about Lehteras salary. It no doubt helped out the value of the deal (next years first I would assume) they still have plenty of space available. It is not a hinderance to them

I think he can, in terms of his size and speed and hockey sense. I just worry that he's brittle.

I'd rather have Lehtera than Flip. But both is crazy to me. Something more has to be going on than just shipping out Read or someone.

Have to look at it in terms of having the ability to fit the money under the Cap with the situation moving forward short term. If the Flyers hit on the first rounders then it goes a long way to setting the team up for the future.
