Meh, Schenn doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of opponents. Just adding Morin will make the whole team feel a little bigger - BiggE
And how the (frank) did I forget about Morin?
Good point, re: losing toughness in the Schenn deal |

Nolan Patrick isn't a soft kid.
I don't think Oskar Lindblom is either. - johndewar

I don't know if the Filppula move is a waste, per se. It may end up that way, but I don't think it was when they made it.
Do they make the Schenn deal if they don't get Nolan Patrick? I'm not sure. - johndewar
In my view Schenn was a winger in the Flyers eyes moving forward so I don't think drafting Patrick pushed them to the deal. I think it was all about the picks.

For me the lack of speed, is/was more of an issue than toughness. |

Ever since Hexy took over, the team has been lukewarm on Schenn (no pun intended). I have a feeling Hexy shopped him pretty hard and this was the best offer.
Like I said last offseason, the Flyers should move Schenn when his value was at its highest. I imagine they could have gotten a lot more for him last offseason. - PhillySportsGuy
I think it's fair to say that Schenn was a piece they liked but never loved

Schenn was maybe the 5th "toughest" player on this team. If the decision is to keep a guy because he is "tough" or trade him for 2 1sts, you (frank)ing Trayden |

Now you're just picking at folks -- Blues are gonna be fine next year. They had stopped listening to Hitch and needed a new voice, but the 99 points they had last season were legit - AllInForFlyers
Who takes Schenn's spot on the PP? |

Truthfully?
I'd put Couturier's big ass there and give him every opportunity to make that work

Couturier could play a mean game at times. Actually his best games are when he was mixing it up. |

Im not gonna complain at all about getting 2 first for Schenn ill just feel a lot better when some of the prospects score some goals this season..
PP or not, goals count exactly the same and Schenn hit 25 or more the last 2 seasons. |

Literally anyone who can stand there and take a shot. It's not like he did anything on the PP exepct be the 3rd option for a pass/2nd in line for a rebound. |

Have to remember there is a new person bringing in ideas for pp. Maybe they don't have the double high screen. |

Lindblom? Weal?
Or the dude that we picked with the 2nd pick that people have been touting since he was 14?
We're not going to miss Brayden Schenn IMO. |

You raise a good point and Schenn should not be completely discounted. But I do believe his production is replaceable. |

We picked Nolan Patrick in the draft and most of us would have murdered a homeless guy to get this guy before the Flyers luckily got the 2nd pick in the draft.
And somehow, we're fixated on how we're replacing Brayden Schenn's PP contribution? Really? |

If I had to guess I'd say they'll dump Read and Filppula tomorrow with some picks attached to them.
Hopefully pick up a goalie too. That should leave them in ok shape. |

Agreed -- yeah, I want more ES scoring, too. We all do. And looking at Schenn in a vacuum, it's fair to say that he didn't do enough at ES
But it's just as fair to look at some other guys and wonder WTF they are doing at ES, too
Getting two firsts for Schenn is value, and I would've pulled the trigger on that even knowing that second pick is likely gonna be in the 20s
But it wasn't like that guy didn't get better from a few years ago and 50-60 points -- hey. Somebody needs to get those
Not saying they won't. But somebody needs to get those

I may say something that sounds crazy to many, but makes sense in my mind: I would try Laughton in Schenn's spot on the PP. I think his shot would play well in that spot.
I'm sure Lindblom will get a look as well. The Flyers may just decide to overhaul the PP completely considering they brought in a new coach. It may be in the team's best interest to figure out a way to get Patrick on the top unit as well. He has a great shot. |
