If they wanted to, they could buyout Lehtera next offseason and his cap hit would only be $1.6M for two years - PhillySportsGuy
Good point. |

For the life of me, I'll never understand the acquisition of Filppula. Would loved to have seen Yzerman poopting himself trying to unload that contract before the expansion draft and free agency. - PhillySportsGuy
I think the idea was Flip taking pressure off of Couturier at 2C. And statistically, I think it worked out for Couturier.

I imagine they don't want that on the cap when they now obviously re-sign Simmer.
Could just eat half and trade him with 1 year left. I think that's preferable. Or just keep him at 4C. |

Lehtera takes pressure off of AMac, just in a different away. |

I feel like Hexy let both teams off the hook kinda easily...but I'm a fan of the strategy. - Nucker101
I do think people are overlooking the fact that the Flyers got TWO first rounders. Coburn netted them a late first, Gudas (seen more as a throw-in at the time) and a 3rd round pick. That was seen as a great deal.
I also don't think Lehtera is completely dead salary. He's probably worth a couple million, so it's more like taking on $2.5M of dead salary IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We haven't discussed how this might hurt Coots game...him and schenn had great chemistry every time they played together |

I think Baby Schenn needed Coots more than Coots needed him. |

Don't think the Blues will be amazing next year either. It's possible it's closer to 20. Maybe even high teens. And they got a 1st this year too. I think it's a fair trade having digested it. Lehtera is just a bitter pill, but we'll live.
Still, moves are incoming soon no doubt. Maybe tomorrow. |

I think that was more just Couturier hitting a hot streak. There's really no evidence that Filppula took tough minutes away from Couturier. In fact, the team seemed to be moving Filppula around quite a bit trying to find chemistry. He really struggled to mesh with anyone. |

Yeah, but what's Schenn's stand alone value and what's the stand alone value of taking on Lehtera's 4.7M cap hit for 2 years? Maybe I'm just underrating the return because of the Frost pick.... |

Yeah, I think there are a number of ways to deal with Lehtera's cap hit next offseason if they absolutely need the space. Anything at 2 years or shorter usually isn't too bad. It's those 3+ year deals that are the real killers. |

Flip had 8 points in 20 games.
I think it's too early to judge him just yet. |

Part of me feels like Hexy made this move because he just wanted to change things up a bit, but knew he wouldn't be able to do much in free agency. It's no secret that Schenn has never been his favorite. |

I don't know anything about Frost other than the fact that his dad is Jack, but in terms of pick value, I think it's a fair deal. Schenn + Taking on Lehtera's money for 2 first round picks.
Also, as Mono said, the Blues could be somewhat mediocre next year. That pick could be in the late teens. |

This was a late first tho and I think most people would agree that they went off the board with the pick. So yeah, technically two firsts but I'm not exactly sold on the deal until we see what this other pick ends up being. If it ends up being another pick in the 20s then I think that they could've done better. |

For what it's worth the TSN guys said they had Frost as a mid 2nd rounder, 45th overall range.
With all the picks they have they probably could've packaged the 2nd with something to move up early tomorrow and grab him at the beginning of the round. |

More is to come...They will be getting a goalie and they have pieces to move to make that happen. Dallas is very needy here and I think Hexy will destroy them with a sweet trade that will help us get rid of some dead weight. It will happen...I will make it happen with will alone. Well maybe not but it will happen. |

That's the risk I probably would've taken. He was projected to go 45, we have the 44th pick. I'd package a pick with 44 to get to the earlier 30s and grab him. It's a big stretch to grab a guy like 20 spots early. Especially when it's coming as a result of a trade. |

i guess it doesn't matter if the flyers got their man it's a so called weak draft so you just go with that |

Projected doesn't mean anything. To me, his talent level was in that range, and there were reports some teams had him as a 1st. He could've been taken within another couple picks, and they targeted him as THE guy. They had him above everyone else comfortably enough to do it. You say it's 20 spots early, but Chytil went at 21, and he was projected 30-40. I thought he was way better than that. I really don't think they reached on Frost as much as you're making it out.
Plenty of teams reach anyway and look brilliant in hindsight. It's just a matter of trusting who you target. |
