Shatty doesn't sound so bad does he? - chilliard77
He blows defensively
And I need my defensemen to actually be able to play defense
Also he's gonna cost a TON
And we won't be using him in a way that gets the most out of him
He's a PP specialist right?
But our top PP unit is already set
How much time would he get on PP2?
His point will thus go down quite a bit
And we'll be paying a guy 7mil to be average (at best) defensively
Of course he'd help
But at his price tag, and in the role we'd use him,
It just doesn't make sense |

More on Kane -
On two fronts for the Buffalo Sabres - Evander Kane trade talks and 1st round pick Casey Mittelstadt:
One team exec with some damning words about the Sabres left winger for potential suitors: “Stay away.
“He’s the guy everyone in the locker room hates. As much as he is skilled, you’re talking about issues, maybe if you have a strong room, but I would not move a significant asset for him because he will stir the pot with his teammates. He’s the Jeremy Giambi of hockey; I wouldn’t give more than a third-round pick for him... I suppose they got a gift with Mittlestadt at 8, but I’ve heard how that kid can be checked into the ground.”

you would think he would be more worried about his jets team then try to justify moving kane |
|

that is what the agent asked for
I NEVER said he would get that

I was thinking the same thing.
I hate the "anonymous NHL exec" stories |

I wonder how much time that exec has spent in a locker room with Kane and if he would also agree that young people often grow up. |

I don't think he gets more than 6.5 mil. He only wants to play on the east coast, and a lot of teams are going to think the same thing you're thinking |

They can't talk yet...? Not until July - sbroads24
They can talk to Kane whenever they want
Just can't sign the contract until July1 |

I like the Luukkonen pick but that's probably just because I'm heavily biased towards Finns. |

No I'm not
The overwhelming amount of top4 defensemen are drafted in the top2 rounds is a FACT, not my opinion
Of course it's a huge help if u can develop later round guys
It just doesn't happen enough that u can depend on it
But even if that were the case...
since we are MUCH deeper at forward...
wouldn't it make sense to draft defense early & forwrd latwr
And then "develop" the forwards? - jdfitz77
Look at the Sabres blue line. Most of them are first and second rounders. It's all about developing them

The vets do. I know that for sure.
There was also the rumor about him and Risto getting into it |

I've heard about Risto, but I'm sure things like that happen all the time between teammates, it's only a big deal because it's Kane
The vets? So crying Gorges? |

Doesn't change that we wouldn't be using him in a way that gets the most out of him
And 6.5mil is still WAY too much for a 2nd pair defenseman who won't put up the points with us that he has with StL
I doubt he wants to come here anyways
But he's still not the right guy for us
He's not bad, just a BAD fit for what we need |

From what I heard, they think he rubbed off on Sam in a bad way.
Niether of them were doing the O'Reilly practices, and Kane and Sam both had issues with Bylsma |

The disconnect here is in my opinion, he's definitely first pairing |

For sure
I'm not trying to downplay development
You're totally right
But most top4 guys are early round picks that were developed
Yeah, of course some are later round guys
But they're the exception, not the norm |

He was 3rd pair on Caps
2nd on StL
He's a RH defenseman
So he won't be partnered with Risto
And he won't get top PP time
How is he a top pair guy? |

One of my buddies is good friends with ROR.
There is a major divide between the younger guys and older guys on the roster.
The vets feel like the kids don't care, the kids blame coaching.

This isn't fair rating system though. Both of those teams are stacked defensively.
When I use the term "first pairing" I mean first pairing quality. He could play on our 2nd pair but still be first pairing quality, know what I'm saying? |

Yeah, I do
But he wouldn't be on our topPP
And he's a guy that needs to be sheltered defensively
Something like 60% offensive zone starts
So paying a guy 6.5mil that will put up less points
(a lot of his came on the PP)
And who isn't strong defensively
Just doesn't make sense to me
If our PP sucked, he'd make a lot more sense
But it's already great
Again, not a bad player, just a bad fit
And way too much $$$ |

He'd fit in well with Housley's up-tempo defense |

I'm talking about his role, not style
He had 37 PP points this past year
He'll lose at least half of those if he's on PP2
Probably lose more like 75%
So if he's down to 40 points
And not good at all defensively
How can u pay that guy 6.5mil
For me, that's just a really bad idea
If we were gonna use him on PP1
Or he was actually good defensively
Then it would make sense
