Are we, as a fanbase, really happy with this pick?

It's who I wanted anyhow. Glad the Fin was chosen 3rd. Knock on this guy is he can't play D. But he seems to always have the puck. 50/50 he plays next year hard to say. Wonder if this means small beans Barrie is going to be shipped out soon.

I don't think it's a stretch to say the Avs have been one of THE worst teams at assessing, drafting, developing and icing talent in the past decade or so.

The "Salary Cap Era" has definitely not been particularly kind to the Avs.

Unfortunately (and because of the Cap), you can't fix those problems overnight. You really can't even fix them over just two or three seasons.

Maybe I'm just being optimistically naive but I feel like this weekend could be a turning point for the Avs organization. No, this isn't a deep draft but that affects all the teams equally. It doesn't give the other teams the ability to get an even BIGGER jump on the Avs.

Without overstating the obvious, it would appear that almost everything hinges on what the Avs do with Duchene. I'd hate to see him go but getting a stud defenseman in return would quickly salve those wounds.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Nashville accomplished what they did this season. Adding Subban helped them go from perennial first or second-rounders to being a legitimate Cup contender (I'd LOVE to see what Nashville could have done with Johansen).

Either way, the future starts this weekend.

I hope Sakic and crew can get the ship turned around and headed back in the right direction.

If they were smart they'd keep Duchene.

MacKinnon isn't enough to scare teams. You need someone else.

Sakic knows that. He won't let Dutchy go unless it's really, really a good deal.

He is more valuable to us on our team. People forget his is also one of the top faceoff guys in the entire league.. bet you forgot that.
