Have a cluster/tier of guys who I rank about even:

1) Aleksi Heponiemi - Pure playmaker, nice hands and speed. Won't score a lot of goals but man can he set people up and create some magic. One of those guys that can create something out of nothing at times, play him with a good finisher and you're Gucci. Went through a growth spurt is ridiculously skinny right now, 5'10.5" and 150 pounds. High ceiling boom or bust pick. Guessing his playing weight will be around 170-175 when he's NHL ready.

2) David Farrance - best dman left, perfect for the way the league is going. Can skate really well. Likes to carry the puck out of the zone and is comfortable rushing the puck up ice. Can create offense at 5v5 and be a playmaker on the PP. Has a decent shot as well. Smart player too, not bad defensively. Not a physical player though.

3) Joni Ikonen - Great skater and likes to have the puck on his stick. Has a really nice shot. Good playmaker too. Plays hard in all 3 zones, not afraid to battle for the puck even though he's not a big guy at 5'11" and 175. Love his skating, has a good poop, decent playmaker and not soft at all, pretty decent package. Knock on him is that he tries to do too much himself at times and tries to make some low percentage passes.

4) Grant Mismash - Not as much of a boom or bust pick as Ikonen and Heponiemi but this guy is hard not to like. Fast, gritty, works his ass off, and has some decent skill and hockey sense. Great on the forecheck, along the boards, loves to be in front of the net and can finish off plays there. Won't back down from anyone. Feel like he has a really good chance at being a solid NHL player. Obviously more of a complementary guy if he's on a scoring line or a guy you play on the 3rd line for energy and some depth scoring. He'd be my pick if the teams wants more of a gritty player at 33.

5) Jason Robertson - Stats are great for a guy his age on a meh CHL team. Probably the obvious moneyball/analytical pick if he's there at 33. He basically drives the offense for Kingston. He can flat out score, is great at finishing in front of the net or in the slot area, and is a decent playmaker too. Only issue is that he's not a great skater and at 6'2", he's not physical either. Also tends to float around on defense at times.

1. The pooptier version of our first round pick.
2. He really sucks at playing defence.
3. Another version of Van's first round pick
4. Van won't pick a player that plays with grit.
5. Another play who has no idea what to do in the defensive zone.

I like Mismash.

Kole Lind or Nic Hague. I'm actually really hoping for Nic Hague because I didn't think he would make it out of the first.

What do you think of Liljegren going middle of the first round to Toronto? I'm quite pissed off.

A team that is becoming known for scouting and drafting very good hockey players and probabaly 10 other teams passed over him but yet Toronto didn't. I feel as if there was something wrong with him that Toronto would have passed on him too.

Oh I get it, it's his 1st name, so what happened to the ole placing a "y" after his last name...you know Dorsey, Goldy, Granny....Petey, we are on first name basis with Elias, not even Pettersson but every other player is identified by their last name...

Hey guy's good morning! ,well that was interesting? I'm really surprised! That benning went off the board here, and quite frankly not surprising their's rumors of a shake up In the front office! That some of the scouts apparently wanting glass and some wanting vilardi!I I went back to old blogs and you guys must be freaking out ! Cause after reading about moving up! Grabing 1oa ? Trading Tanev! (No body wants!) and everone wanted some boby other than picking Pedersen? This was the draft that was going to be the one ,that some gms were going to be sorry for not taking the guy!As example ottawa getting Karlsson at 15th (not saying theirs a Karlsson type skill?) pick and in this draft being so close as it was, some are going to look back to a huge miss opportunit me thinks, I know that this sounds like a troll job but it's not! Just saying when does benning stop disappointing? st.louis and we'll of course. ...toronto were possibly the big winners but benning never seems to amaze! Good luck guys with the rest of the offseason!

Timmy boy was listed at number 2!! For two years only befind Nolan ,then got mono, and had an injury, not getting back to where he was before this all happened he slipped big time down the charts, and right into torontos hands and I couldn't be more than franking happy! Also Brannstrom is the ONE it think that'll have teams sorry for not choosing!

I was watching highlights of this kid and anyone who compares him to the Sedins are so far off. His passing is like the twins but his stick work is like Oshie and yes Datsyuk. He turns on a dime.

I hope he can bring that to the Canucks. Benning said last night he is hoping the Sedins will be good mentors for him which breaks my heart to hear.

Was 2. I think he is going to be a good player in the NHL in the coming years. I think he was a top 5-12 pick. Vegas picking Brannstrom over Liljegren. Well I guess that's why the Capitals have never won a stanley cup. George McPhee

Petterson over Villardi and Glass??? Wow
- Matthews_Auston

I know! That's definitely a huge disappointment for these guys! Like I said I went though the other blogs and glass, vilardi, makar, and middlstadt where the guys! But hopefully Pettersson will be a number 2,sorry guys! And I know that some of you will put on a brave face, and good for you! ,you should! It's just again a huge missed opportunity and I wonder how many benning has missed? Tanev maybe? Anyhow to many pages to go through so I'll just assume that Vancouver is freaking out and benning is about to be fired! ! Have an amazing weekend! !!

165 pounds 5th overall pick is what we need then? Just using your logic here..

he's 150 pounds btw..so only 15 less than our 5th overall pick...

- Nucker101

Thats a horrible comparison. First of all, I wanted Glass, like any sane human. BUT Petterson at 165lb is not a stretch to put on 15-20 lbs over the next 2 years and be a normal size C. Having a 140lb frame as an 18 yr old is nuts. You can't honestly expect that kid to put on 30-40lbs and be the same player. Its realistic to put on 20-25 but even that still puts him extremely underweight. Imagine him lining up against Getzclaf as a 150-160lb center!!! Its a joke. I have no idea if you've ever played hockey before, but fluctuating that much weight is severely gonna change you game. I've gone up and down between 180-200lbs since i was 16 and its doable without jeopardizing your play on the ice. All I'm saying is there are better size options out there, let him be some other teams "project" - we got enough

and btw http://www.hockeydb.com/i...s/pdisplay.php?pid=196060

hes a 140lbs

Alexander Wennberg taken 14th in 2013 same scoring rate, same league as Elias Pettersson in his draft season. Currently 6th in scoring in that draft with almost 100 less games then the people above him.

Heponiemi sounds like an smaller Granlund . I would like to see a different type of player.

Lind or Roberstson ok and I really wouldn't mind Ratcliffe or Hague . Sounds like Benning might grab a goalie with the 55 or 64 . I would like Strome with the 64

Thanks for your response and for the record I said that benning made out like a bandit! At last year's deadline! And I've loved the city of Vancouver! So not trolling! I've disagreed with the value of players for sure! The Tanev for the 1st ov and a bunch of other examples was so franking mind blowing! And embarrassing quite frankly! Sorry! And it ends up their was very little to no intrest! Benning again misread a market that just wasn't there! Have an amazing weekend end buddy I'm out!

Solid pick at 17. Mono hurt his chances of being a top 5 pick. Teams will regret not taking him.
