Anyone else here really happy with the picks so far?
A huge steal in the 2nd round with a big talented Dman, as well as a big guy in net from the WHL.
Must say this is really good going forward.
Sure, it'd be nice to get a top 4 Dman for JVR to round out our blueline, but looking ahead 5 years this team could be really deep.
So the question is: Do we get anything for JVR? Does he get moved for a Dman?
I wouldn't mind seeing him go, and free up a wing spot for the likes of Leivo and Soshnikov - AngryWhiteMale
Does jvr have a full no movement clause or does he have to submit like 10 teams or something? |

There's a few reaches there I think, but we may have a good one with O'Connell in the final round... the few folks on twitter I've seen who scout seem to think that he's got lots of talent but needs some rounding out.
That said, getting Liljegren is (frank)ing boss - lumlums
Yeah it's hard to turn those ones down.
Thank god for Modo...I mean mono |

10 Team no trade list.
Hope they move him, we're not gonna be able to afford to resign him for the term he'll want and he's still useful as a trade chip. |

Lamoriello said his team can't "jump-start" the process they're in as they continue to build.
I guess he doesn't know about the short/closing window to win thing that some leaf fans know about..

We need to win the Stanley Cup by February 23, 2018.
Any later and the window will have closed.

Best player available perhaps?
I have no problem picking up a goalie with a 3rd rounder. Like the TV guys said that's typically when you start drafting goalies, and hey, if down the road we have a true no. 1 in 5-7 years then nobody will say anything. |

today...it was simply pick guys with boring names...
a Russian guy named Vladislav... not very original.
some dude with two first names
I think Hunter uses a scrabble board to identify the first letters of the players he will draft... its "that scientific".... probably based on Lums' thesis |

I think he does...especially since the expansion draft is over and teams can take him.
Look for Carolina and Minny. |

I agree and if one of the right shooting Goliath d-man pans out, will be well worth it. Maybe the best deal of the draft was the one not made with Barf Snow. Boy did Burkie ever get fished in.

Babs also said today they will be looking for d help this offseason.
I do agree they won't fall into the pressure that Burke did today but he will be going hard to get one. |

Nice to see Lou is on board with playing the long game. I would be willing to move a known position first but happy to add Liljegren. Hard not see him becoming a top 4 D.
With D prices this high seems like the logical spot to add with so much cap is UFA. If Liljegren ends up being the long term option to the top 4 then a shorter duration contract is key.
Micheal Stone seems like odd man out now in Calgary. A younger, better Polak, I'd offer the Kris Russell contract. Cap hit shouldn't be an issue if he plays bottom pair for a season or two because a rookie (hopefully Liljegren) pushes him out and would be on ELC anyways. |

It's almost like they come up with their own ranking of players. |
