On a positive note...I was't really thinking about Glass or Andersson for the Sabres. So dropping two spots in the lottery didn't end up bothering me. |

BTW, these sabres players suck, as it stands currently:
Gionta (Most likely gone)
Larsson (Possibly gone)
Foligno (Possibly gone)
Girgensons (Possibly gone)
Bogosian (Staying)
Ennis (Staying)
Moulson (Staying)
Deslauriers (Probably gone)
Fasching (Staying)
Gorges (Staying)
Franson (Gone)
Carrier (Gone)
Players that should be given a shot with the NHL Club but are yet unknown:
Bailey
Baptiste
Rodriguez
Guhle
Falk (Could be a really solid 6/7 guy; Don't underestimate the value of this type of player)
Muzito-Bagenda
Like it or not, our current core:
Eichel
O'Reilly
Okposo
Kane
Reinhart
Ristolainen
McCabe
So basically, 7 of our 18 roster players don't suck currently. That's less than half the team. In other words, more than half the team blows and that's being humble.
That's our main issue. Goaltending, I think Lehner gets it done and we will see with Ullmark.

Are you going by the anonymous exec as part of the basis for saying people aren't very interested in Kane?
I don't believe for a second that teams aren't interested in Kane. I think they definitely are, but just like us, they know he's a UFA next offseason and he will be expecting a long term deal.
I believe teams are calling GMJB for Kane, but they are trying to see how little they have to give up to get him, which is what likely happens with soon to be UFA's. - kingcong39
Too lazy to look this up and this site is absolute garbage the last month or so trying to type on an iPhone. I type and type and the typing lags behind and misspells all types of words. backspaxe and the space bar work for poop.
Around the time of Eichel's exit interviews, I seem to recall a bit about how how he was referring to young guys taking it for granted that they were an NHL player and weren't ready lily was parking any anymore. There was also some conflict mentioned on here but esteem 15 and 23. Point being, if 23 I should chumming around with 9 to his detriment, then he )23) is no leader and I wouldn't bat an eye if he got shown the door as trade bait. Not sticking around and practicing with 90 is a major red flag. Cavorting. With 9- not so much for me.
I spent too many year and reading about how Myers is the next Chara because he was tall when all the evidence (not punching people in the face, major wussy, giraffe like appearance) suggested he was NOT IN FACT the next Chara. He got paid too eagerly and showed up out of shape and got hurt and it ruined our defense.
As such, just because we really needed a center (due to idoit Darcy) and we picked 23 2nd, doesn't mean he is the next Malkin or whatever. In the same vein we all laughed at the leafs fans when they thought Kadri was the second coming because hey needed a center and had traded away all of their picks for ever.
Maybe 23 can get better, but he needs to keep working- that concrete pad isn't going to lay itself and if you ain't working you ain't getting better. |

I can't remember a time when goaltending was a serious issue with this team. Historically, it's a very strong point for the franchise. Defense on the other hand... |

For some reason, goaltending has never once been an issue in Buffalo. Odd but I'm not going to complain. |

One more thing- we have a log jam of centers. For example, we had nothing since Roy went down with that's leg injury and 23/48 skipped town. Thanks Darcy.
So we sign ROR and he basically says he isn't coming to buffalo unless he is guaranteed a spot playing center. So then the first draft screw job occurs and we get Sam. Great we have 2 centers. We are set. Then we get screwed again by bettman and the league and get Eichel. Now we have 3 hi-qual centers, yay! Except Disco Dunce ( did he really like disco? ) decides that's 23 isn't actually a winger And ROR can't/ won't play wing.
Long story short. 23 is traded for d help or we put him at center on the 3rd line. Is he THAT good of a winger that we keep him? Surely there is some Jabroni GM out there who will get excited by the 2nd over all?
Why keep him if he isn't happy paying Wing and he isn't strong enough to take over for the 7.5 million dollar center ROR?

It's Rip Simonick. He keeps those pads freaking clean! Gotta be him, he and RJ are the only constants. |

With Phil Housley as our coach I think shattenkirk could work here but I still think he's going to the Rangers..
And are people really female doging about his defensive game it's not like Erik Karlsson is a wizard at it lol
If we do a Run and Gun system it could work
Erik Karlsson is far better at his defensive game then Shattenkirk and if he isn't then he makes up for it with 70 points.
And no Shattenkirk won't work here. The amount of salary he'd want would be insane. Eichel is probably due $7.5+ and Reinhart $4.5+ and Kane at probably $5.9+. |

You don't draft a C with the 8th overall pick when you know damn well you have to upgrade the defense and you have been saying you have to upgrade the defense. Part of Murray's downfall was the defense, i'm unimpressed. - SABRES 89
Lol funny how people here keep crying that he's a centre but don't know he plays wing also.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Has anyone seen our prospects right now? We've got like nobody.
Asplund
Pu
Fitzgerald
Borgen
Those are the only ones really worth mentioning
We are dry we need a bit of everything.
The rest of the young guys are in the AHL and have graduated to the pros.

On two fronts for the Buffalo Sabres - Evander Kane trade talks and 1st round pick Casey Mittelstadt:
One team exec with some damning words about the Sabres left winger for potential suitors: “Stay away.
“He’s the guy everyone in the locker room hates. As much as he is skilled, you’re talking about issues, maybe if you have a strong room, but I would not move a significant asset for him because he will stir the pot with his teammates. He’s the Jeremy Giambi of hockey; I wouldn’t give more than a third-round pick for him... I suppose they got a gift with Mittlestadt at 8, but I’ve heard how that kid can be checked into the ground

I've yet to see any real reports out of Buffalo that Kane has been a bad team mate as a Sabre.
The only one I've heard is Kulikov.
Mittlestadt has been described as having a very tough lower body. I doubt he gets checked into the ground often. |

Oh I forgot we could evaluate all these players playing a handful of games under Bylsma.
Edit: and Reinhart may not be a top 6 forward when all is done. - doppelthat
Reinhart is a top 6 player. So you can't really take that away from him now.
Bailey was awful. I'd be surprised if we see anything more than a bottom 6 player out of him
Baptiste has a good chance to be a 20+ goal scorer.
Fasching seems injury prone. 50/50 on him.
Nylander will be a star winger. |

I also thought Bapper really separated himself from Bailey last year. Before the season started, they seemed pretty even to me. |

There was a report today from an "anonymous NHL exec" that said he wouldn't trade a 3rd for Kane - sbroads24
The same guy said it would change to a 2nd if Kane was white. |

I'm going to hold out on Fasching and wait and see how he plays healthy. When he started out in Buffalo before the groin injury national commentators were saying glowing things about his game; about his positioning and his work in the corners.
Bailey, I love his speed and effort but he just hasn't produced in the NHL yet
Baptiste is a wait and see, maybe he'll be a finisher in the NHL and get you 20 goals a year and for third round pick that will be a win but that's a big maybe.
Nylander might be a year away
Everyone saying that the Sabres HAD to draft a defenceman last year and maybe this year too, well remember they didn't have Okposo at the draft so they had Jack, Reinhart who is a natural center, O'Reilly, Kane who they thought had one foot out the door and still may today and who else? That is not a deep and very talented forward group so you take the BPA because you need talented scorers/forwards too. |

So then yes, you are using an 'anonymous exec' as part of your thought process.
Until the quote unquote anonymous exec shows him or herself, I'll consider that as valid a 'report' as if it came from our resident expert know-it-all 39. |

I'm really curious to see if they give reinhart an extension this summer, mostly because it would be really telling - Sabresfan-365
Why on earth would they not?
This summer is the time to do it, to keep his next contract salary down a bit.
If I were his agent, I would wait until next offseason to bank on an improved production based on Reinhart having confidence in himself, further improvement for a player of his age and experience, and a coach that hopefully has a semblance of a clue.
If anything, GMJB will be reaching out to secure him to an extension and it'll be Reinhart's camp that is the one to say no, they want to wait. |

Due to all the issues this site has, which as you pointed out are innumerable, I'll keep my reply short.
And how did Kadri do this past season with a competent coach?
At this point, I could give a damn if they trade Reinhart or not as, quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing how much of a disappointment he is from the same people that incessantly bring it up. |
