Why on earth would they not?
This summer is the time to do it, to keep his next contract salary down a bit.
If I were his agent, I would wait until next offseason to bank on an improved production based on Reinhart having confidence in himself, further improvement for a player of his age and experience, and a coach that hopefully has a semblance of a clue.
If anything, GMJB will be reaching out to secure him to an extension and it'll be Reinhart's camp that is the one to say no, they want to wait. - kingcong39
Well i can think of at least one reason |

I've yet to see any real reports out of Buffalo that Kane has been a bad team mate as a Sabre.
The only one I've heard is Kulikov.
Mittlestadt has been described as having a very tough lower body. I doubt he gets checked into the ground often. - Jammerz04
The "one NHL exec said" part is where everyone should have stopped reading. I mean, really? That site is worse than this.
Some people on these boards (not you) just won't let it go because of their hatred for Kane. "See? See?! Some mystery assistant GM said Kane is a problem! We should take this as gospel!"
3 years later, and certain posters won't let it go. It's agenda-driven and, quite frankly, childish. |

We did alright. Would have liked to see us add a couple higher end defensive prospects but we I don't blame the BPA approach |

Good grief. Just mention me by name. I'm a big boy, and it's a message board. Some of you will die on the "Kane is misunderstood" sword, won't you?
The dude is a good player who's also pretty widely known as an A+ douche bag
So what? I posted what an article said.

You added that guy from the Habs which wasn't bad . I'm very disappointed. |

Agreed.
Seeing what Oshie got, and reading that people aren't very interested in Kane makes me wonder if he would re-sign at his current amount or less, it might not be an awful idea.
Unless he really is awful for the locker room and Kim Pegula still wants him out.

Oh yeah, Beaulieu. Forgot about that lol
My condolences on the Russell contract. But rest easy knowing you have McDavid so you'll still be a great team anyways |

Pretty sure Cindy Crosby is also known as a grade A DB as well, but he produces, which is all that matters, which in the end is I believe what your point is.
I don't trust Kane enough to sign him to an extension, so I would be looking to trade him, but if I feel the offers aren't enough, as he is a good player, there is no rush as the trading deadline might be the better opportunity. |

Based on Chia's track record, he'll make some additional confusing moves, but you'll end up winning a cup, so really, nothing to worry about |

If there is truly a mandate from ownership to be better and make the playoffs, do you make a push for the package deal of Thornton and Marleau together?
Based on Ryan Wilson's blog, Pitt would be a more desirable location for Jumbo Joe, but if you make the pitch to both Thornton and Marleau together, maybe that would sway them?
Youre top 3 lines would have the following duos:
Eichel & Reinhart
O'Reilly & Okposo
Thornton & Marleau
It would be quite formidable. |
