A lot of ppl did... That's scouting.

Not by early June he was easily top 10 in most if not all updated draft rankings.

Though don't know if anyone had the balls to rate him #1 like you.

@ballstein. The option to switch picks was not there.

Wrong. The rumour, as reported, was that Vegas offered us a deal to switch picks - but then they somehow figured out that we weren't taking Glass, so they rescinded the offer.

If we don't do something stupid, we get Pettersson AND a pick. But, we obviously did something stupid and telegraphed our selection.

Dude that is hardly criteria for picking.
Bias is having blinders onπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I didn't want a goalie in 3rd round, not sure why we took him.

Didn't take enough centres or dmen.

Exactly. Wish that would be stopped as a hit on JB. I wished he could do it at first if he was going with Elias. Frack Vegas and their greed to take the option away. I saw JB make the call on the floor and got a No. So hate Vegas and dumb ass Nill for not taking Tanev even more now. Will boo those teams often. Good draft and pieces for us either way.
- Nuck4U

If the market was not there for Tanev it will be in the future.
Timing is key & we can wait it out.
Opportunities will arise as usual when teams don't do as well as they wanted.
There is always the TDL when overpayent is likely.

Want to talk about a reach! New York took Anderson at 7! He was ranked 15th I don't like the pick at all.
- CanuckDon

Yeah they traded Yotes for that pick guess they had no idea what to do.

That was the scuttlebut but who knows how serious McPhee was.
It could of been just a whimsical thought & not serious.
On the surface it seemed Glass was highly wanted but I'd think its overstated.

I agree on time. Thought we had a shot at 3OA but price went up in June. But don't agree on TDL overpayments for high end players. Seems they can't be fit in to cap teams that usually do these big trades in off season. Overpayments are for bottom 6 and 3rd pairing D that get dumped around TDL. So if Guddy isn't signing a reasonable extension I expect him to be only player besides DD that gets moved at next TDL.

For the record I've seen no statement from McPhee or JB there was a legit offer to swap picks. Reporters speculated much but no confirmation it was truly on the table.

Tanevs cap hit is easy to fit in for many teams adding longterm quality

Wouldn't that be great if GMs made statements about every trade that never materialized.

So, I'm wrong am I?

Well, the GM of the team in question agrees with me, so is he wrong too?

George McPhee to NBC: We had a deal...to get to 5 with Vancouver to move up one, but then we thought our guy would be there and we backed off

Rumor was that McPhee wanted makar and if he was at 5 was going to pay us a 2nd to swap. Once Cool took makar the deal was off.

No he doesn't you are so wrong. They pulled it ... Makar was their target then. But took gamble for either Glass or Petterson to not not offer pick. JB only talked up Vilardi and Glass in interviews. He phoned them on floor they got greedy to horde pick so blame it on those SOB's frack Vegas4ever.

You are insinuating that JB told McPhee who he was going to pick. I'm insinuating that you are an idiot

He's good value yes. But teams who are buying rarely have room to add more then a couple million at TDL. Cap has killed most if not all big deal and trades at TDL. Notice the big trades now. This is the new TDL draft and before free agency to free up money. Cap rules the NHL and why it's gotten so young now with ELC's too.

Yes you are wrong, that statement says that there was a deal and Vegas backed out...not because of Benning announcing to the all GM's in the room....Hey I'm not picking Glass, I want Pettersson, give me a break stringer

So McPhee has this thought that why give up an extra pick, let's ride this out, But because you have a hatred of Benning you want to spin this to suit your narrative.

That makes no sense! In the quote above, the GM said that they thought their guy would still be there at #6 when the offer to the Canucks was taken off the table. If this was only about Makar, they would have rescinded the offer the second he was taken at #4 and then they would have said that their guy was already gone, not that they still thought they could get him at 6.

Oh, and interestingly, I just googled looking for this Vegas-Makar rumor you talk about - and there is absolutely nothing about it anywhere! I did find an article about how Vegas was high on Glass though...

EDIT: This doesn't make sense in other ways too. If the Makar thing is true - then, in that interview after they selected Glass when he referred to the player they wanted as 'our guy', he would have to have been referring to Makar and not Glass! Have you ever heard an NHL GM refer to another team's player as 'our guy'? Like ever?

Benning is dumb as a sack of potatoes. I wouldn't put it past him.
He's not a very good poker player. I say we fire his ass as gm and Fire Delorme and make Benning head scout.

You completely ignored the 'and' and everything after it. Unbelievable.

I notice you also didn't provide any sources (like I did).
