The flyers can afford to do that. - tomburton99
only because they don't have a goalie, but they have their own bad contracts already |

You're making too much sense today Jan - KreiderBomb
Darn, here's to me thinking that I usually made sense, not just today |

I would love to know why Jan brought up Schenn's cap hit in the blog but Lehtera's wasn't mentioned - jimbo83
Because it was 2:30 am, I forgot and didn't think it was overlay germane to the conversation. Plus, if it that cap hit wasn't the return likely would have been higher than what they received, which already was a first rounder and conditional one. |

The flyers have taken on bad contracts to get assets. Like Filppula and Lehtera. Again they can afford to do that because the likes of Proporov, Patrick, Sanhiem, and Morin are all on the cheap right now. It's not the same. No matter how much you want it to be |

I'm wondering, what does rebuild on the fly, mean exactly? - OLDSCHOOL#6
Shh, when I get to the next blog, that term will be in it. Not the greatest of quotes to use by Gorton. |

you know what, in the blog you asked people to compare the Rangers and Flyer deals, I did.
If people want to act like everyone wouldn't have freaked out if we brought back Lehtera's contract in the Stepan deal they are lying |

If they got back two first picks some people might have liked that. That feeling would have been shirt lived when the Rangers picked the wrong kids though. |

They can sign a goalie. They have Stolarz and Carter Hart in their system. |

try to get younger but stay competitive at the same time - jimbo83
A difficult balancing act to be sure.
Larry Brooks suggests they may look at Joe Thornton on a short term deal. I hope not!
I feel the main priority is a top RH Dman, but they don't grow on trees.
Any chance the Yotes flip Raanta to the Flyers? Yikes. |

the Yotes have pretty much been saying that they believe Raanta could be a #1 goalie, but who knows. That team is so crazy right now, once they have a head coach in place that could change. |

Joe Thornton - tomburton99
Don't be shocked if he is brought on a short-term deal. But there are rumors he wants a three-year deal, which to me, makes him untenable in New York. No way I give him that many years. |

Just a question here.
I see people saying we could have got Andersson later in the 1st. These GM's are constantly talking to each other before and during the draft. How do we know other teams weren't ready to pick Andersson earlier? Maybe he jumped up in other teams rankings.
We always act like we know exactly what should have happened yet we all have limited information. |

I asked for people to weigh in on who they thought made the better deal. Obviously, your view is the Rangers, in my opinion, jury is out until we see how cap savings are used. |

then why say Schenn's cap hit is 5.1 mil at all? |

I agree with you, I gave my opinion. Others disagree, which is cool. I hope I am grossly wrong and Andersson becomes a beast in NY. If that happens, I will gladly admit I was wrong.

Because I was comparing to what Stepan makes, and yes, I missed the Lehtera piece, I made a mistake. But also Schenn has an extra year to his deal over Lehtera's, which is a factor. We disagree, that's cool, but I am not changing my mind on my view on the two deals, at least as of now. If cap savings is used wisely, then I might. |

Thats interesting. Because the Kings took Vilardi who it seems was the consensus pick.
So it looks like the Kings probably would have taken Andersson if we took Vilardi. That tells me there really isn't much difference in these picks "right now".
Some will be busts, some will break out, I just don't think this guy Andersson was as late a pick as everyone seems to be making him. |

ok, so to go further, if the Rangers had taken a bad contract back, like Lehtera's in the Stepan deal, along with a conditional 1st next year, you'd be happier? |

I think they wanted to make room for Patrick at C and could end up buying Lehtera. didn't say I love him, but the extra first rounder is nice. Like I said, repeatedly, if NY uses that cap space wisely and also DeAngelo pans out - which also is up in the air - edge to NY, and I will be ecstatic. |
