ok, so to go further, if the Rangers had taken a bad contract back, like Lehtera's in the Stepan deal, along with a conditional 1st next year, you'd be happier?
- jimbo83

Didn't say that, I asked the question which deal people preferred, your view is clearly well known. Plus, you haven't seen making a panic or going off the deep end here.

the more talk about this has made me feel like the Flyers deal was awful on their end. I didn't realize how good Schenn was last year for the Flyers for instance. I think he'll thrive in St Louis.

Was kind of surprised they did this, especially seeing how Schenn took another step next year. Has to be something else we don't see going on here.

Just a question here.

I see people saying we could have got Andersson later in the 1st. These GM's are constantly talking to each other before and during the draft. How do we know other teams weren't ready to pick Andersson earlier? Maybe he jumped up in other teams rankings.

We always act like we know exactly what should have happened yet we all have limited information.

To me that says Gorton panicked because a rival GM tried to drive up the price.

He played 3rd line center and racked up a ton of PP goals. Dig deeper please.

this is one of those examples where people are so addicted to being negative, PP goals have become a bad thing.

I am psyched that the Flyers gave away a 25 year old forward who scored 17 powerplay goals last year.

Lehtera sucks and Morgan Frost is 3 years away at best. I am not quaking in my boots over the Flyers right now.

Pick wise yes, Lehtera really fell off the last two years. Quite curious to see how Philly deploys him.

That might also be the case. Unknown at this point. Let me just say that I don't dislike Lias Andersson the player. I dislike where he was chosen, but that's not his fault. That falls right into the lap of the Rangers front office. Now they've labeled this kid as top 10 pick. So he better produce like one. Again that's not fair to Andersson, but that's what comes with the territory of "Top 10 pick".

So then the Rangers should have trade the 7th pick to the Kings for the 11th+.

The Flyers have one of the better prospect pools in the NHL.

But, then the Kings would have gotten Andersson. Obviously whether you like it or not the Rangers valued Andersson overt Vilardi and any asset they could have gotten from the Kings for them to move from 11 to 7.

So the Rangers panicked and reached. As you a other have said, what is the difference in this draft in terms of talent?

When you miss the playoffs a couple of times that should happen don't you think?

I think it's pretty impossible to make the playoffs every single year like the Rangers do and then be critical of their prospect pool.

Well I would compare him to the other top 10's from this draft. Be a little unfair to compare him to lets say the McDavid draft.

Also as to what Gorton said about rebuilding on the fly, this pick makes perfect sense. Someone who can possibly slot in right away as the 4th line center in what everyone says is a weak draft.

Vilardis skating g wasn't what it needed to be according to many GMs, which is why he dropped. The rangers even think Anderson has chance to make this years team! Hr seems to Be more NHL ready than anyone else in. First round

Thank you for the recap of the draft Jan. Good work. I'll not subject the thread with a grad thus setting off another fire storm.

So, the Rangers are doing a rebuild. I hope they don't muck it up by signing Thornton or Shattenkirk. They should focus on getting reasonable deals for the RFAs and trying to get Smith signed for $4M per. Nash should be pushed at the deadline for young players or picks.

I pray we don't do this rebuild like the last one where aging players were added to the roster just to appease the fan base. They eat up minutes from the younger players to boost the win total to barely climb into the playoffs and we pick #17th again.

I'd rather see the young guys play, and if they perform well enough, add the pieces they need later in the year.

I'm okay with trusting Clark and Drury's draft selections. People look at the pre-draft rankings as being a linear gauge of talent when realistically, there probably isn't much of a difference between a lot of the players mentioned. Hell, the NHL has seen more than its' share of top ten busts...

Good blogs, Jan. It was nice to have something to read about the Rangers draft on a Sunday morning.
