I actually didn't even realize that Schenn led the entire league in powerplay goals last year until Tom brought it up.
As a negative. - jimbo83
He replaced Hartnell on the first PP unit in the slot. |

I really like the Andersson pick although I would have traded down a few spots to get him. Maybe 12 with carolina would have worked just because as you mentioned there was some players still on the board that teams would have been willing to move up for. But give me a team full of Anderssons any day of the week. Legit two way player who can put the puck in the net and is hard on the puck. Those are the players you win with. |

you know, there was just no moving up at all in the top half of the draft which leads me to believe that no teams were really interested in giving up another asset in order to get a player, it just seems teams were content to just get whoever fell to them in the top half of the draft
I do believe the Rangers wanted Makar though and were willing to trade 7 and 21 to Dallas for 3, of course no one knows that for sure.

Been well reported that's what they wanted to do. I like Andersson, if he ends up Niklas Sundstrom 2.0+, that's fine. But I liked others better and he now has the pressure of being the seventh overall pick and taken over some bigger names that went after him.
I think he has the make up to succeed. But don't want him rushed like Manny Malhotra. In addition, the consternation over the pick is there I want a big time scorer, not a safe pick, despite one with upside. That's all. I understand disagreeing with me and think in the past I have been well balanced in my views and in defense of Good Clark, who I trust a ton. |

I think the Dallas front office is something of a dumpster fire. The notion of trading the 3rd pick for the 7th and 21st, was probably lost on them. |

I kind of get the feeling they loved Heiskanen and didn't want to pass up on him. Certainly need defensemen there that's fore sure |

people judging this summer on June 25th is just so annoying
it's like walking out on the Godfather after the wedding scene - jimbo83
It shows people love this team. I get that. I think it's a little crazy too, considering none of us are travelling the globe to scout players, but it certainly keeps things interesting. |

They got the best goalie in the draft and arguably the best d-man. |

let me ask you a question, isn't it a FACT that Lehtera scored 7 goals last year and has a 4.7 million cap hit the next two years or it is my OPINION that I am trying to get people to agree with and "beat my chest about"?
Because, I think it's a fact. But perhaps that's just me. - jimbo83
A factual retort. But the you're ignoring the Flyers return of 2 draft picks. |

Beating $4.7 mil to death, they are headed in a strong direction but with actual direction, that D is gonna be very good, Nashville good in a few years and they have some depth like us in net, Stolarz, Hart, Sandstrom, I think they're very high on Weal, still have Giroux, Simmonds, Vorocek, Konecny with Rubstov and Lindbolm coming up, good foundation, hate Philly but respect the direction but that's just my opinion like it or not |

Beside the Morin pick, they've done a decent job at get young talent. As much as it pains me say and as much as I hate them. |

Who do you guys think we'll target on July 1st? I think it's clear Gorton is adding some sand paper in guys like Smith and Deangelo and hope he continues. Some guys I like are Bonino and Mason (depending on how much he would want) and wouldn't mind Boyle. Franson? |

I think him Smith and Denagelo back there would bring some nasty but don't know a ton about him that's why I put the question mark. From what I've seen I like him, great size 6'5 235, has some nasty. But not sure he's the answer to play next to McD? |

Haha, great as a 4c I think. Would drastically improve our PK and I've never seen a better 5 on 3 penalty killer. But I would prefer Bonino and Nieves first. |

He's softer than both DeAngelo and Smith. And he's not offensive. Plus he's older than Shattenkirk. Pass. |

I don't think we need an offensive guy to play with McD, I think we need a guy we can put out there with McD to go against other teams top lines. I don't mind him being 29 because I don't think he's going to get a 7 year deal at 7 per. |

I want to see Nieves and Andersson fight for that spot and maybe pick up a 2/3 center if they plan on going Zibanejad and Hayes 1&2 |

Haven't looked at the UFA market for centers in awhile, but from what I remember it was pretty weak. Don't know if there are any centers that fit that bill.
If they trade for a center I actually would go for the big splash and try to get a #1.

Just a question here.
I see people saying we could have got Andersson later in the 1st. These GM's are constantly talking to each other before and during the draft. How do we know other teams weren't ready to pick Andersson earlier? Maybe he jumped up in other teams rankings.
We always act like we know exactly what should have happened yet we all have limited information. - mdw7413
THIS.
It's known that both Detroit (pick#9), & LA (pick#11) were highly considering Andersson so did we get pinched taking him at 7? Sure, but it's also known Gordie & Co tried moving up to #3 & select Cale Maker but Dallas wouldn't budge.. Hey I'm just ecstatic we had a first round pick(s).

Big splash? McD Miller+ for Mackinnon and Zadarov. |
