We can agree to disagree. I'm of the mind that IF a person is prone to violence against women (or men, for that matter), that doesn't change without a LOT of counseling, etc., if ever.
I hope Dreger is right, for Kane's sake and for those around him. - pdx2ord
Some other team can take that risk as far as I'm concerned |

Taking all the off-ice stuff out of the equation, how much of a dink do you have to be when Buff calls you out? |

Maybe that's the ex-hawk Stan should target. |

Ulf played with Larry Murphy in Pittsburgh, right? I think both Stan and Ulf have watched Connor Murphy enough to know he has the ability to play 20+ minutes a night at a high level. "Best defenseman in the NHL". (Tanner) Oliver Ekman Larson had awful numbers. The team he's played on was a complete disaster so I'm cautiously optimistic about Murphy. Based on the scouting report, Keith-Murphy could be a damn good Top Pairing. Big, physical, mobile and defense-first RHD, theoretically, is exactly what Keith needs at this stage of his career. 2 is still an Elite Dman, but not the best in the world like he was a few years ago. Hopefully Ulf focuses on Hawks' D being more physical on opposing forwards in front of Crow. Always felt like the Hawks allowed too much net front presence without physical resistance. |

Only if he is playing forward. He is a mess defensively.

AA + for Buff and put him on wing with Kane and Schmaltz. |

Let's straighten out some things:
I am not dead just have been bummed that after attempting to have ALL prospects in the data bank, the hawks manage to pick only four players i have viewed.
That either speaks to the fact that really get down in the foreign juniors and do extensive work on kids that are off the radar of other teams, or you, me and the reat of the leagues organizations are looking at different attributes, qualities, and are drafting diversely.
Gordie Murphy is the kid's father, not Larry.
and I will say this after conor Murphy was drafted he played one more year of junior and then, split his first pro year between their farm team and the Coyotes. And after that year he played two entire seasons there before last season.
I openly remarked to people (probably here too) how I thought he looked like a bust...deer in the headlights, and uncomfortable and unsure, as if he was thinking instead of being instinctive...
But this season I remarked to myself in my head that he looked so much more comfortable in both ends and was more instinctive. (I only watched the games against the hawks so count that)
I am not saying this because he is a hawk, but b/c I actually noticed it.
Dauphin well he was always a guy who cut to the net well to attack it in junior, and a 200 foot guy who played on PK /PP but a smaller guy. You have to wonder just how much rope he gets if he doesn't start being a contributor.
Maybe he goes to habs with someone for winger Alex Galchenyuk as Bergevin seems to like adding Francophones.

Oops. Also came across a fitness model dbag googling Connor Murphy. Either way, I like the Ulf hire and aggressive nature of the trades. Saad is a huge win especially if AA is moved to somewhat replace Panarin.... |

I did the exact same thing and thought, "Wow, the Hawks get themselves a ripped body builder."
On another note, cool story on CSN Chicago website about how Jamal Mayers saved a kid on his draft day in 1993:

Agreed. Won't happen but would love it.
Pass on sharp. 2 concussions and hip surgery and 35? No dice.
I just can't wait for Murphy to give a speech and dawn his world championship sweater with the "C" on it. The tourney most guys skip at years end. Captain America has been born..... |

He did trade for captain America so that may cheer you up.
Let's hope half these picks pan out and become serviceable NHL players.

This team doesn't make the playoffs. Incredibly small not physical at all. That 4th line and the d look awful. Good goaltending that's about it. - vandymeer23
Two of the smallest teams last year competed for the cup - the smaller of the two won. Preds are physical in terms of holding teams up, but the Pens are more of a stickwork team. |

Can we please stop with this Sharp, shaw bs.We don't need them. - Tatoo
Totally agree here, didn't see the Saad trade coming , and of course it opens the doors for all the let's get Shaw back, let's get Sharp back ect. Well in that case, we need a proven back up, so let's get Denis DeJordy back while we are at it!
I am sure Bowman has a couple of other surprises up his sleeve next week. Bowman likes those projects so keep an eye on a Kid Like Nail Yakupov possibly. |

One last thought on the draft:
Why do you let the interviewer who talks to each kid be a 6 foot 6 guy? Drfatee Cal Foote was the closet propsect in the first round to almost be eye to eye with him!
I am pretty sure no matter what team the viewers root for that had to think, "boy we drafted a smaller guy."
Isn't enough that the Chicago press was attempting to call Henri Jokiharju 6' 1"
I had him much farther away rom the first round but other draft prognosticators had him in early second category (where Conor Timmins,Kole Lind, Nicolas Hague, Isaac Ratcliffe landed and NOT in the first where i had them!)
I also thought it was bit odd that the guy ESPN pays to do prospects, Cory Prohman, listed Henri Jokiharu, as the TWENTY-FIRST best PROSPECT in his top 100, but then in his MOCK draft, but doesn't have him going in the top 31 in his mock....
After watching two defenseman go 3rd and 4th overall without anybody of work that can even slightly insure they can defend that well at the pro level either, you have to think the Hawks might be right: you get push defenders who get it going and you don't worry if they are a liabiilty as defenders.
Both theses first two picks make Duncan Keith look like Keith Magnuson, in that they are stick defenders who position themselves and hope for the best against bigger forwards.
Ian Mitchell is a guy who was defense-first but got more and more comfortable and eventually became a strong Transporter with a keen eye/ hands for the long pass.
So he has got a presence the they will build on in Denver.
Andrei Altybarmakyan, well, he was a second year eligible, who must have really elevated his game in the last year, because no team was sniffing around last year.
Evan Barratt is a great kid, 200 footer plays are three forward position and will probably play dee if he needed to. Don't get me wrong: he is NOT slow. There IS jump there...He simply hasn't developed his skating tho a point that you see so many kids juking in and turning out, etc. He has got fine hands, finds in linemates well and is relentless in puck pursuit and going to the front. So don't hold hopes this is A Toews clone; he projects as a kid who gets better in college and could have a career - as an NHL player, but right now no one can attach top six to him. |

SJ certainly in mix for Thornton & Marleau, but both want term. Not sure how it ends up, but I wonder if SJ inks Marleau, that might be it |

The Hawks played slower last season than at any time since Toews/Kane arrived....And I'm not only referring to skating speed-but the ability to turn a play from defense to offense wiith effective passing as well. - Al
You do not have to skate fast to play fast. Speed of thought and hockey IQ and some decent hands are the most important part of elite up tempo hockey. Switching gears and finding seams (Saad on the stretch pass) are IQ and feel. Add skating speed to that and you have the first two Hawk cup teams. |
