They would def need to see some growth out of Schmaltz for him to backfill AA (who also blows at draws. i also don't think Schmaltz was 30% either - John Jaeckel
Had to look it up. Here's a listing of FO%'s by current (as of 1:45pm 6.26.17) Hawks and potential/rumored/dream signings. Jenner only had 184 draws.
Player FOW FOL %
Schmaltz 84 188 30.9
Anisimov 416 516 45.1
Toews 852 700 54.9
Kruger 357 370 49.1
Kero 209 262 44.4
Rasmussen 165 205 44.6
Desi 39 30 56.5
Jenner 92 92 50% (184 draws)
Galchenyuk 274 368 42.7 (yes, I know he'd play a wing!)
Sharp 29 32 47.5
Shaw 239 199 54.6 (Surprised me! Must've been a lot of 50/50's!) |

Schmaltz was 30.1%. That's remarkably bad. Probably comes with needing to be a little bigger an stronger in the upper body. Will be interesting to see if he comes to camp a bit bigger. - JRoenick97
It seemed that the Hawks on the ice - all 4 or 5 (or 6 late in games) were not very good at helping the FO guy win the draw.
How much of Schmaltz' 30%, and Anisimov's whatever%, and Kruger's deterioration, was due to the player not winning the draw cleanly, and how much was due to the team not fighting for and winning the 50-50 puck? |

With AA gone, I think it needs to be, if possible, multiple parts coming back.
Think: Hammer got back a defender 6 years younger with a slightly smaller contract and Laurent Dauphin, who is an RFA and could probably be signed for around $1M. Both have very high upside. One cap hit for Hammer almost covers 2 players.
Panarin + Motte got back a more complete player in Saad though one who is not as much of a pure goal scorer. Same cap hit though longer term for Saad, but the shiny, younger player with high upside is Forsberg.
So AA: for E. Kane, whose cap hit is $5.25M? And who is UFA in a year? Besides the headache, that's not exactly cost certainty for the next 4 years a la Murphy and Saad.
AA for Galchenyuk? He's RFA, and recent RFA's like Saad have gotten a lot of term and a LOT of money. Doesn't help the cap hit even if he signs a reasonable deal for AA's $4.55M.
Is there another under-the-radar move? AA for a centerman of equal or lower age but with a cap hit of $3-3.5M locked in for several years. Maybe hasn't quite posted AA's numbers but the potential is there to be a lot better than AA. - DMChi2010
Sean Couturier makes about the same AAV ($4.3mil), signed through 2022, 4 years younger than Anisimov, better on draws, and probably has more offensive upside than 15. A trade package around AA for Couturier would be interesting.

Maybe the front office needs to reconsider Yanic Perrault as the FO guru? |

Jenner primarily plays on Dubinsky's wing. I'd expect him to play Wing for the Hawks, as well. |

A lot of hard miles on Couturier and since the Flyers just dumped Schenn they won't trade SC. |

That could be true. AA was much better at draws with CBJ. 48-49% |

2 day draft, sent Hammer packing, sent Bread packing, brought back Saad and some good younger guys. He's been busy. Give that dude a beer. - JRoenick97

They dumped Schenn but adding Anisimov and Nolan Patrick and they should still be fine down the middle. Couturier is only 24 years old...has he had injury issues? He is a defense first guy with size andgood hands that would mesh very well with Kaner, IMO. |

Brandon Sutter from VAN. 6'3", signed for 175k less but until 2021. Selke votes when he wasn't with the garbage Canucks, can put up points, 54% FO guy. |

He's had his share of injuries and I don't really like him offensively, especially @ $4.3M for the next 5 years.
Now Wayne Simmonds is another story ..... him I like very much. Which probably means Stanbo will pick up Valterri Filppula |

A Sutter that's strong on faceoffs? That'll never work!
(JK, I'd love another Sutter on the team! Loved Darryl, Duane, Brent, and Rich) |

He would help Toews more so than Saad IMO. I love the Saad move, but adding Simmonds and having him play with Toews will take 19 away from the front of the net. On top of that, you have a great finisher around the front of the net on the PP |

He's not being extended an offer by NYR, he'll be a UFA as of July 1st.
5 teams in 3 years, couldn't crack the Rangers' lineup very often last year. |
